Pakistan completes construction of gate at Torkham border

KHYBER AGENCY: Pakistan completed the construction of the gate 'Bab-e-Pakistan' at the Torkham border on Tuesday.

Construction on the gate had begun a few months ago and had led to escalation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with both sides trading fire and causing casualties on the other end. Pakistan completed construction on the gate on Tuesday.

The primary function of the gate is to check the movement of illegal persons to and from Pakistan. For that very purpose, security checkpoints have been established at both ends of the Bab-e-Pakistan gate. The gate has two doors, one which will be used to enter Pakistan and the other via which one can leave the country.

Security officials stated that the construction of the gate will not only promote peace in Pakistan but will also lead to the same in Afghanistan. Pakistan has blamed a number of terrorist attacks and incidents from the recent past on Afghan national who crossed the border illegally.

Pakistan has always maintained the stance that the Bab-e-Pakistan gate is well within the side of the Pakistani border hence it is its prerogative to construct it.

You havew a 2400 Kms border which needs controlling. A simple gate is neither here nor there. A lot more needs to be done. And while we are at it lets do the same at the pak Iran border to prevent ras from coming in there as well.

I think we would need a lot of gates, since single gate cannot handle the whole traffic, and a fence between those gates. However it seems an expensive but essential project.

A gate was build here as this was a legal border crossing area and more then 1000s of people crossed here every day , the other crossings are illegal at the un defended borders

Army wouldn't have just thrown a gate somewhere in the middle of nowhere
