GUANGZHOU, Jun.16 (China Economic Net) - A special salon themed “Pakistani Mango Tasting & Idea Exchange on Business Development” was held in Guangzhou, China on June 14 to promote communication and trade between Pakistan and Guangzhou, a busy trade hub that knotted friendship city ties with Lahore, Pakistan.
Enjoying the taste and aroma of Pakistan’s Sindhri Mango, one of the world’s top available varieties, guests including government officers and entrepreneurs from both countries tapped the market potential between China and Pakistan.
On the occasion, Muhammad Irfan, Commercial Counsellor of Consulate-General of Pakistan in Guangzhou, China, presented Pakistan's industries and the geographical advantages of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Pakistan and China enjoy a long history of economic and trade relations. Besides mangoes, Commercial Section of the Pakistani Consulate-General in Guangzhou is making all-out efforts to showcase Pakistani products, potential for cooperation and is keen to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries, he added.
Lilian Hu, Associate Professor of Institute of International Studies, Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences (GZASS), introduced the dividends and significance of the economic and trade cooperation between both countries. She also provided theoretical experience for quality projects in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, science and technology. “When exploring the Pakistani market, Chinese enterprises should strengthen cooperation with local ones to complement each other and achieve win-win development,” she said.
Tony Lee, CEO of MERAPC Solutions Pvt., Pakistan, shared his experience in doing business in Pakistan. According to him, Pakistan is equipped with supportive investment conditions for Chinese investors. And he wished the salon could enhance Chinese enterprises’ understanding of the economic environment and business opportunities in Pakistan.
The event is hosted by Guangzhou International Cooperation Center (GICC) and co-organized by Guangzhou Iron Pak Commerce Co., LTD., China, and MERAPC Solutions Pvt., Pakistan.
Supervised by Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, GICC is a non-profit comprehensive international exchange platform established to further strengthen and deepen exchanges and practical cooperation between Guangzhou and global cities in fields of economy, trade, technology, education, and culture.

ISLAMABAD, June 17 (Gwadar Pro) - Pakistan’s agricultural exports to China will soon grow beyond US$ 1 billion per annum, said Dr Gu Wenliang, Agricultural Counsellor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Islamabad.
Speaking at a seminar in Rawalpindi regarding China-Pakistan agricultural cooperation under CPEC on Thursday, Dr Gu said that China offered a huge and lucrative market for Pakistani agricultural goods including rice, cherries, dry chillies, onions, mangoes and pine nuts. Pakistani cherries and pine nuts can be sold in China at much higher rates than in Pakistan, he said.
The Agricultural Counsellor said that China and Pakistan had made several achievements in agricultural cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. He mentioned several success stories including the chilli contract farming in Sindh and Punjab, which he said had now exceeded an area of more than 500 acres. Chinese firms will set up an industry to extract precious chemicals from chillies after the contract farming reaches the desired level. Presently, the dry chillies produced through contract farming are being exported to China, he said.
Dr Gu also talked about the introduction of embryos of Pakistani buffaloes to China and a facility set up for the purpose in Lahore by China’s Royal Group. The China Overseas Ports Holding Co. (COPHC) has also established a tissue culture lab in Gwadar where new varieties of banana and other fruits have been developed, he said.
Former Chairman of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council Dr Yousuf said that China’s cooperation with Pakistan in the agricultural field had always been tremendous. As many as 28,000 Pakistani researchers were being trained in China before the Covid 19 pandemic, as 40% of all international scholarships offered by China went to Pakistani students and researchers. Also, Pakistan recently achieved a historic yield of rice (9.3 million tonnes) due to the Chinese hybrid seed, he disclosed.
Dr Gu said that being the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, China's assistance in the agriculture sector will benefit the entire population of the country.

Pakistan’s exports to China crossed $1.605 billion in the first five months of 2022, up 5.42% year on year, showed the official data from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC).

Pakistan Embassy Commercial Counsellor in Beijing Badaruz Zaman said that despite Covid-19, bilateral trade has increased significantly.

“Pakistani government is also fully committed to tapping its industrialisation potential and paying specific attention to the construction of Special Economic Zones to enhance its trade with other countries,” he added.

Zaman assessed that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement provides zero-tariff market access for Pakistan’s 313 major export commodities, and has greatly promoted the manufacturing industry to expand production and exports.

“China-Pakistan free trade agreement will create more space for service trade. Bilateral trade between the two countries will cross $50 billion within the next five years. This year, the trade volume will cross $32 billion,” he projected.

The total volume of trade between China and Pakistan has amounted to $12.06 billion, up nearly 19% compared with 2021 when it stood at $10.14 billion due to Covid-19.

In the growth of trade between the two countries, the major products were rice, sesamum seeds, pine nuts, textiles, seafood and other agricultural products, which have recorded an increase year on year and promoted Pakistan’s economic recovery.

ISLAMABAD, July 5 (Gwadar Pro) - Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has organized a three-day training, starting on July 6, for Pakistani sellers to learn about the Chinese market.
Pakistani Consulate General in Shanghai and China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade have collaborated on the training to be undertaken by Alibaba Taobao Education, TDAP said on Monday.
The participants will learn about the Chinese market, its distribution system and portraits of Chinese consumers. Interpretation of general trade and cross border e-commerce models, analysis of cross border e-commerce platforms including Tmall Global, Global Shopping, Koala and analysis of the gateway to China are also among the topics to be covered during the extensive training.
The training also includes analysis of cross border e-commerce warehousing logistics mode as well as interpretation of import laws and regulations. The participants will also be trained on cross border e-commerce brand building and marketing, TDAP said.
The online training is open to all Pakistani sellers. During the training, certified lecturers by Alibaba Taobao Education will deliver six key lectures, each followed by a QA session, TDAP said.
Pakistani exports have registered an upward trend after the implementation of phase II of Free Trade Agreement between China and Pakistan. China has allowed duty free import of over 300 items from Pakistan, which has opened a new avenue for Pakistani traditional and online sellers.

Pakistan’s dried fruits have a huge market in China​


To tap the numerous potential of Pakistan’s dried fruits export, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Shanghai in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, held a webinar today on the export of dried fruits and nuts from Pakistan to China.

On the occasion, Mr. Hussain Haider, Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai, highlighted that exports of nuts and dried fruits from Pakistan to China reached $65 million in 2021, a surge from $8 million in 2020, which shows great potential for Pakistan’s dried fruits export to China. “Pakistan has a strong agricultural foundation and quality dried fruits. Under the second phase of China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement, Pakistan exports dried fruits to China with zero tariffs, which is of great benefit to Pakistan.”

The CG further mentioned that “Chinese snack food is a rapidly expanding market and snacks with high nutrition are becoming more popular. Preference for small packages is growing and online purchase is becoming the prevailing mode of purchase. By catering to the needs of the Chinese market, Pakistani dried fruits companies can seize business opportunities.”

More than 20 related companies from China and Pakistan attended the webinar. Pakistani enterprises propose to simplify road transport procedures, increase transport channels and reduce transportation costs. The ongoing epidemic in Shanghai has made people pay more and more attention to food and realize the importance of nutritious food that can improve immunity and can be preserved for a long time. Chinese trade, logistics, and e-commerce enterprises present believe that Pakistan’s export of dried fruits to China has a bright future, and they are willing to display quality Pakistani dried fruit products through exhibitions and other channels to expand its popularity in China.

Pakistan exported oilseeds, nuts, and kernels worth $185.2 million during the first ten months (July-April) of the current fiscal year against the exports of $84.6 million during the same period of the last fiscal year, showing an increase of 118.93 percent, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). In terms of quantity, the exports of oilseeds, nuts, and kernels also increased by 76.06 percent, going up from 77,415 MT to 136,294 MT, according to the data.

China has become Pakistan’s largest trading partner for years. In the first four months of 2022, China imported a total of 2.819 million tons of dried and fresh melons and nuts, an increase of 12.9 percent over the same period last year.

Pakistan’s exports to China surged 8%​

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports to China in June 2022 have increased by 8% to US$251.30 million as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year when it was recorded at US$232.74 million in June 2021, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday quoting Trade Development Authority Pakistan (TDAP).

Also, as compared to May 2022, Pakistan’s exports to China have shown positive signs by gaining a value of US$22.38 million. In May, the total exports to China were recorded as US$228.92 million.

Pakistan’s exports to UAE, Italy, Netherlands, UK, Spain, Bangladesh, Thailand, Canada, and France have also increased as compared to the corresponding month of June 2021.

Pakistan’s exports to all destinations of the world during June 2022 were recorded at US$2,887 million, which is 5.83% more than the corresponding month of June 2021 when the total figure was US$2,728 million.
Regarding imports, China is one of the top partner countries which shows a decrease during June as compared to the corresponding month of the previous fiscal year.

In June 2022, Pakistan’s imports from China decreased by 14% to US$1625.21 million compared to June 2021’s US$1894.16 million imports. This is a good sign for Pakistan to minimise its trade deficit.

ABP 2022-23: Pakistan to participate in 13 trade exhibitions in China​

ISLAMABAD, July 13 (Gwadar Pro) - In line with Trade Development Authority Pakistan (TDAP) Annual Business Plan (ABP) 2022-23, Pakistani officials, experts, importers, and exporters will participate in 13 promotional exhibitions and fairs in different Chinese cities during this period.
The exhibitions will cover a variety of topics including textile, leather, agro & food, exports of rice, mangoes, and meat to China, etc. Apart from exhibitions, the authority has also planned export promotional conferences, webinars, workshops, and delegations to and from Pakistan during this period.
The 7th China-Eurasia Expo under the category of International Markets Development Division (IMDD) will take place from August 25 to 30 in Urumqi, China. Similarly, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics will be organized from August 29 to 31, 2022.
From September 16 to 19, the China-ASEAN Expo will take place in Nanning, China under the IMDD category while in October 2022, Seafood and Fisheries Expo will take place in Hongdao, China.
China Int’l Import Expo (CIIE) has been planned for November 5-10 2022 in Shanghai under the category of IMDD while Wenzhou 4th Intl Import Expo will be organized on November 18-21 in Wenzhou. The Western China International Sourcing Fair will take place on November 19-21 in Xi'an, China.
In March 2023, the Xiamen Stone Fair will take place in Xiamen, China. Pakistan’s Engineering & Minerals Division will participate to showcase the country’s marble sector. During the same month, Pakistan’s Textile and Leather Division will exhibit the country’s apparel and fabrics at ‘Inter Textile Shanghai Fabric’ in China.
In April 2023, China Import & Export Fair (Canton Fair) will take place in Guangzhou in the category of IMDD while the Textile and Leather Division of Pakistan will showcase the country’s articles of leather at APLF Hong Kong.
From May 25 to 27, the textile and leather division will participate in the Domotex-Shanghai exhibition in Shanghai China.
In June 2023, Pakistan will participate in China Int'l SME Fair which will take place in Guangzhou.
As per the business plan 2022-23, 10 Pakistani delegates associated with ready-made garments and hosiery will visit China while four Chinese delegates (quarantine inspectors in meat) will visit Pakistan.
Several seminars and webinars/B2B Sessions and interactions are also planned wherein importers and exporters from both countries will participate. For example, in August 2022, a webinar titled ‘Replacing imports from China due to US sanctions/tariff increase’ will take place to understand the market dynamics of China after US sanctions.
In September 2022, another B2B interaction on replacing imports from China will be organized to understand the market dynamics of China after US sanctions.
In November 2022, a webinar/B2B session will take place to introduce Pakistani citrus products to the Chinese market. The stakeholders of the B2B are TIO China, TDAP, PFVA, SCCI, fruits and vegetable association of China.
In December 2022, a webinar titled ‘Market awareness on China under CPFTA, Potential and Issues of the Plastic Sector and Prospectus of Plastic Exports to China under CPFTA’ will take place.
In January 2023, a webinar/B2B session will take place to introduce Pakistani mango products to the Chinese market. The stakeholders of the B2B include TIO China, TDAP, PFVA, fruits & vegetable association of China.
In January 2023, a B2B interaction of local exporters with major buyers of the world-leading dry fruit importer will take place to secure more shares in the Chinese market.
In March 2023 a webinar/B2B, Pakistan-China Tobacco Trade, Trade Mission China TDAP, business community in China and business community in Pakistan will explore the potential of Pakistan- China Tobacco Trade as China is among top 10 largest exporters of Tobacco
A seminar on CPFTA-II will be held in April 2023 in Karachi to disseminate information regarding the utilization of the FTA with China and tapping into unused potential and tariff lines.
In April 2023, another webinar/B2B session regarding exports of rice to China will be organized by the Trade Mission at Beijing and Shanghai and Rice Importers.
Some seminars and webinars on the topics of ‘Market Opportunities for packaging industry of Pakistan’, ‘Pakistan-China Sports Goods’, ‘Export of Gemstones’ ‘Market penetration, creation of linkages of surgical firms with Chinese counterparts’ and interaction regarding Chinese prefabricated-low-cost housing to Housing sector of Pakistan have also been planned.

PCJCCI plans dairy products export to China​

LAHORE, Jul. 27 (Gwadar Pro)- The cooperation between China and Pakistan in the dairy industry and China’s demand for high-quality dairy products will provide a contemporary path of development for Pakistan’s dairy industry.

Pakistan-China Joint Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) President Wang Zihai expressed these views at a think-tank session held here at the PCJCCI Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.

He maintained: “We have learned that Pakistan is the most important exporter and producer of dairy products in South Asia. If we adopt the techniques and technology used by China, Pakistan could advance in this industry.”

The PCJCCI president mentioned that China was willing to explore more opportunities in Pakistan’s dairy industry. From 2011 to 2022, China’s dairy imports rose at a compound annual growth of 12.3 per cent, and the demand was still expanding. Milk powder, liquid milk, high value-added dairy products such as whey, cheese, butter and cream are also in high demand in the Chinese market.

On the occasion, PCJCCI Senior Vice President Ehsan Choudhry said that currently, China’s dairy imports mainly come from New Zealand (40.44 per cent), the Netherlands (17.15 per cent) and Australia (7.38 per cent). He suggested Pakistani government support this industry to boost export and domestic production, especially to control the adulteration of loose milk.

He asserted that the local farmers are facing many problems, such as lack of education and facilities for storage, transportation, and cold storage. He said the government should come forward to train and educate them with the modern technology. In this way, Chinese consumers’ demands for high-quality dairy products will be satisfied.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's economic development, industrial upgrading and industrial chain extension can be expected in the process.

PCJCCI Vice President Sarfaraz Butt said that animal husbandry is one of the pillar industries in Pakistan. Specifically, Balochistan, where Gwadar Port under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is located in, is with unique advantages of breeding beef cattle and dairy cows.

He added that the construction of epidemic-free area in Gwadar Port is progressing in an orderly way. If the industrial chain of China can be extended to Pakistan, it is expected to achieve win-win outcomes for both countries.

Joint Chambers Secretary General Salahuddin Hanif said that Pakistan is among world's top five milk producers, with over 60 million tons of milk production each year. Such ventures and exports could definitely add value to Pakistan's economy.

Webinar held to facilitate Pakistan’s gemstone export to China​

SHANGHAI, Jul. 29 (Gwadar Pro)-“Pakistan is home to a wide range of minerals, including unrivalled grade rubies, emeralds, topaz, aquamarine, fluorite, and lazuli mined in the valleys of Gilgit, Hunza, Swat, Azad Kashmir, and Chitral. There are great opportunities in the gemstone business and Chinese investors could invest in it to gain higher profits.” Mr. Muhammad Fayyaz Qureshi, Senior Vice Chairman of Pakistan Gems, Jewellers, Traders and Exporters Association (PGJTEA) highlighted on Thursday at a webinar organized by Pakistan’s Consulate General in Shanghai jointly with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan to promote Pakistan’s gemstone exports to China.
Mr. Muhammad Fayyaz Qureshi added that this business has not been able to establish itself as one of the top five markets in the world mostly owing to a lack of sufficient facilities, poor mining expertise, and limited technologies and related know-how.
“To address these challenges, Pakistan is looking forward to establishing joint ventures with China.” Mr. Muhammad Fayyaz Qureshi further explained, “equipment for mining, cutting, and polishing gems stones should be made easy to be imported. Moreover, more educational exchange programs and B2B conferences should be conducted so that our youth can develop useful skills. Both countries should participate in gems and jewellery expos to promote their brands. A work group should also be formed to resolve issues in this sector.”
On the occasion, Hussain Haider, Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai stated that China is the largest market for Pakistan’s gemstones and there is an immense potential for Pakistan to increase its exports of gemstones to China. “Pakistani companies need to understand the preferences and requirements of Chinese buyers to increase their presence in the Chinese market. The purpose of this webinar is both to facilitate business match-making between the two countries and to help Pakistani companies understand the dynamics of the Chinese gemstone market.” he said.
The webinar was attended by more than 30 enterprises from China and Pakistan and relevant associations including All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association and Quetta Chamber of Commerce & Industry. During the webinar, companies from Pakistan introduced themselves and the specific products that they can supply to China, while Chinese companies explained their import requirements. They also emphasized the need to disseminate more information about Pakistan’s gemstones.

163 Pakistani businessmen chartered to Yiwu to promote Pak-China Trade​

YIWU, July 31. (Gwadar Pro)- “Yiwu is my second hometown. I am really grateful to the Yiwu municipal government and Zhejiang Eman Logistics for arranging this charter flight. I will work harder and contribute to the economic and trade cooperation between China and Pakistan!” Asif, a Pakistani businessman who had just landed by a chartered plane from Islamabad to Yiwu, said with great excitement.

A Hainan Airlines charter passenger plane carrying 163 Pakistani businessmen has landed at Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport on Saturday, it has opened a new channel for China-Pakistan trade against the backdrop of the epidemic.
Li Yiman, General Manager of Zhejiang Eman Supply Chain Management Company, and Pakistan’s Honorable Investment Councillor, told Gwadar Pro reporter that this charter flight provides great convenience for Pakistani businessmen returning to Yiwu: “the air tickets were provided at cost price, and the quarantine accommodation expenses after landing were all covered by the obligatory government. Moreover, the direct flight to Hangzhou and Yiwu greatly reduces the quarantine time.”
KK Afridi, head of the proposed Yiwu Pakistan Chamber of Commerce, which is applying for registration, has lived in Yiwu for 15 years and made a lot of efforts for the coordination of this charter flight. He termed this charter flight a historical friendly flight and highlighted that, “customers from Pakistan are thrilled to have easy access to cheap tickets to maintain their business in China, especially in Yiwu market, and again to plan for the future. I hope the Yiwu government can do more for our Pakistani brothers in the future.”
Pakistani businessmen who took this charter flight to Yiwu have expressed their love and expectation for Yiwu. They said that Yiwu market is the world's largest small commodity distribution center, attracting dealers from all over the world, providing an important stage for Pakistani products to China and the rest of the world. They also came to expand exports for Pakistan using Yiwu as an international trade hub.
