Don't know about Pakistan but I sometimes feel that the Hotel Management and fashion industry is somewhat looked down upon in India by purists.

No, he meant, compared to other professons which she could easily get into, this seems to be not so attractive to 'parents' in India.
You get respect only when you become somebody 'big'.
The person who is chasing the dream of course should not bother about all these. Congrats to her.
