Pakistan Car Sales Up 72%; Cement Sales Rise 16.89%

50k cars @ approx Rs. 1 million each would be Rs. 50 billion, or about USD 475 million. Half a billion dollars. Where is this money coming from, if you are correct?

If I remember correctly, it was around Rs.25 billion or so... (the cars are cheaper than Rs.1 million).

It is that bayrozgar scheme where they are giving 50,000 suzuki vans/cabs so that people can start their own transport business. The government gives either a low interest or zero interest monthly installment plan(I don't exactly remember) and I think the price is reduced from actual retail price of same/similar vehicles. So gov. actually probably pays alot less. Infact only enough to bring the price to a level low enough to cause a great surge in demand (to sell such a huge number of vehicles). This is that one single deal that suzuki motors has inked which has taken it's stock price to sky high....

And I'm not sure of the smallest details of the project. Whether the gov. paid the amount in advance and will later be selling these vehicles or a pay as you go type deal.....In any case, it's just another case of resources being allocated wrongly....

When billions can be spent giving away laptops, then why not vehicles too ? (PML-N has a history of giving cars away, peeli taxi scheme remember ?)

And offcourse, it's unlimited taxpayer money, so no problem.....:P

If what you say is true, then the claim of 72% rise in car sales is frivolous, and indeed disingenuous.

Have you ever heard about sovereign guarantees for loans?

These are finance schemes where the govt stands behind the loan in the event of default.

And what allows the govt to do so? The taxpayers!!! That's true everywhere, not just in Pakistan.

So a loan taken out by an already indebted government is the basis for claiming a 72% rise is car sales? That is a BS claim.

Where entire GDP figures can be distorted, this is like lose change....

read this if you haven't already read it :

Fudged wheat figures feed GDP - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

Also, car sales genuinely have increased, but not as much as 72% (if you exclude the gov. order of which I believe ~35,000 vehicles were to be delivered by pak suzuki in this financial year, most of them in the first half).

Claims based on such fudged numbers are to be disregarded, present thread's claims included.

I saw so many hundreds Audis is Lahore. .....but when will the day come when faulty, sub-standard parts of Toyota, Honda and Suzuki are completely blocked in Pakistan ...govt has to end the monoply of cars now.

IMHO, it's a matter of philosophy. Muslims know that they won't be carrying any materialistic staffs from this world as Kefen has no Jep. Moreover, each person's Rizk has already been fixed at the time of his/her birth. Furthermore, serious consequences are there for the folks who hoard wealth. So, more spending less saving....
