Pakistan calls global migrant crisis most horrific, demands urgent action

Its unfortunate and sad what the refugees are going through daily. Rich countries should offer them citizenship regardless of whether they are shia or sunni.
 And then see their countries turn into like Pakistan....

Even Afghans may be foreigners to Pakistan. But what about those people in Bangladesh who have fought for you against all odds and you left them stranded in an alien country ? yes I am talking about Biharis. And you giving lectures on how to treat refugee ?

Pakistan has no locus standi to tell the world how to treat refugees.

What Pakistan is doing with it's own Afghan refugees ?

Then I guess you guys can show us! Like Bangladeshis in India I guess?? What about accepting some refugees from Syria and Afghanistan, no? After all you are the fastest growing, rich, peace loving, conflict hating, non violent, generous, humane and most hospitable people on the globe. No?

Dr Maleeha points out childern among asylum seekers

NEW YORK – UN Permanent Representative of Pakistan Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi on Tuesday called for urgent action to deal with the growing crisis of forced migration.

She pointed out that half the world's refugees today were children. She was speaking as the UNICEF's Executive Board president in its second regular session. In the opening statement to the session, the Pakistan's ambassador to the UN – made an impassioned plea to the world community to live up to its responsibility to address desperate situations in which children were the principal and tragic victims.

Of these, she said, the global refugee crisis was the “most horrific”. She described this as a humanitarian catastrophe in which the suffering of children was unprecedented. She recalled that just last week the harrowing and heart breaking image of a three year old toddler lying dead on a beach after his parents’ desperate flight from conflict had reverberated across the world.

Maleeha said that this should shake the international community’s collective conscience and prompt urgent action. Describing UNICEF’s Executive Board Session as momentous, the ambassador said that this was taking place on the cusp of a historic milestone: the adoption of the United Nations post-2015 development agenda at the Sustainable Development Summit later this month.

She said that the Post-2015 agenda, with its 17 sustainable development goals and 169 targets for the year 2030, seeks to end extreme poverty, equitably promote prosperity and well-being for the world’s peoples, and protect the environment for ourselves and future generations. “It is the most ambitious human endeavor of its kind, transformative in its goals and in its envisaged implementation,” she added.

Lodhi told delegates this was “our chance to make history.” The post-2015 agenda proves to the world once again that “we, in the United Nations do more than talk.” She asserted that in crafting the post-2015 agenda member states had set aside their differences to reach consensus on a shared vision of human progress – for themselves and future generations. “We have proven that we are ready to take decisive, collaborative action to make that vision a reality,” she added.

The ambassador recalled that it had been said many times before that the poor will always be with us. “But for the first time in history this assumption is being challenged. It is being challenged through the SDGs and post-2015 agenda,” she said. She also said that this new agenda would require changing old ways of doing business and embracing innovation. “It will require reaching every child, especially the most disadvantaged and vulnerable”, she added.

Lodhi noted with concern that too many emergencies were grossly underfunded and pressed for urgent attention. She said that funding of UNICEF was not keeping pace with the demands placed on the organisation by burgeoning emergencies.

Walk the talk Madam Lodhi. Offer to absorb these refugees in your country. After all it is Pakistan that sings the songs of "Ummah" all the time and insults and abuses the west. And now begging the Intl comm (read west) to do something about it. Already Europe is on road to absorb a couple 100 thousand of them. What more do you want them to do.

Put your money where your mouth is.

It's not that we open our door and everybody would be drooling to come India. We are still a developing country with overpopulated land. But We are NOT in business of lecturing the world on how to treat refugees.

You people has deserted Bihari muslims who speaks urdu and fought for you because of minute cultural difference. If I am wrong then tell me the 'real' reason of stranding the Biharis in Bangladesh ?

Yet, you are in a thread that doesn't concern you in any possible way lecturing Pakistanis.

I am not worthy enough to lecture you . I am just pointing out to hypocrisy being practiced by your state. (note:I didn't say government)

And i pointed out your obvious hypocrisy.

Nashe main ho kya ? Bhai mera kaam hai Pakistan ko jaleel karna aur main apna kaam kar raha hun .

Hypocrisy to tab hoti when I have said that I am a well-wisher of Pakistan and goes on tarnishing the image in this forum.

Does it strike you that only people to talk on this matter should be Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Biharis themselves? Does it also strike you that India being the invading force should take responsibility for resulted misery? Or that Bangladesh government aka Awami League bears greater responsibility for people living there on human grounds? If there is so much concern, why not atleast provide humanitarian assistance to these people right in their camps? They live much nearer to India than to Pakistan. After all you angels went flying to Nepal, didn't you? World's third largest economy (is it?) and not a shred of humanity? Ofcourse we evil Pakistanis won't do it but what about angel Indians and holy Sheikh Hastens?

Guess what? It takes a big heart to accommodate to 3 million plus for 3 decades. Only Turkey and Pakistan has shown this heart. Yours is not a place to speak here!
