Pakistan blames Bollywood for rape and killing of child. Our neighbour is indeed a lot like us

That's Hollywood's billionaire producer Harvey Weinstein, he was convicted of multiple sexual misdemeanours and currently is serving his jail term.

How many Indians are in jail?

It is Hudood ordinance and it is an amendment to Pakistani legal framework to implement shariah punishments for offenses instead of the old British penal code.

The controversy is that in a country like Pakistan where judges can be bought - those with enough money would buy judges (its remarkably easy to do) and over turn rape cases) and claim them to be consensual. The accuser could then be open to being charged for having extra marital sex - which is a criminal offence in Islam.

As with many things in Pakistan it was an attempt to put Islamic icing on a cake which is stale. Our legal system is corrupt right from the core, much like many facets of officialdom in our society. However you try to dress up that legal system - with the judges and lawyers we have, it's still going to stink.

Many in India have this idea that Pakistan is controlled by the military and everything else is a shop front. This is an idea supported by elements within our own media and political system. The unfortunate truth is there is no hidden hand. The military enjoys such widespread and avid support in our society because it is by far the most professional government institution we have. It will undoubtedly have its flaws but the rest of officialdom are so inept and corrupt; they pale in comparison.

In this setup they allow corrupt money to dictate everything and blame thier failures on Islamic law, the parliamentary system, the hidden hand, foreign interference - you name it - anything other than looking in the mirror.

Thanks, so I understand the Hudood laws would have been scrapped in present Pakistan. I believe they were introduced during General Zia-Ul-Haq's era. Must have been a nightmare for the women. I guess their only consolation was the corruption in the judiciary.

Speaking as an Indian, I say ALL Bollywood movies released after 2005-06 are TRASH. I think the last Bollywood film I had really enjoyed was Dil Chahta Hai: it kinda reflects my urbane sleek lifestyle, and Aamir Khan is a real gem. But now he has grown old, so I don't like to watch him on screen anymore. I do enjoy 70's and 80's Bollywood songs and some movies. That time the standards were far better.

Dil Chahta Hai was a good film. One of the themes was a younger man being in love with an older woman, which seems to be taboo in the popular films.

I will recommend a film to you - Rocket Singh : Salesman of the year, which is a 2009 realistic film of a young man who joins a computer sales company and finds the corrupt and ruthless nature of the Indian IT world. Ranbir Singh has done a good job as have the rest of the cast. I will not reveal the rest of the plot.

I too agree about the 80s songs. Then, there were quite a few "experimental" and realistic films and those then had good music and songs.

Its more to do with suppressed sexuality
I also thought about this as one of the reason but then these things are also widespread in free sex western countries so I don't think this is the case anymore. Moreover many rapists turn out to be married people. So...

How many movies does he do annually?

If you meant to say actresses when you said 'movies', did when you said 'does' and rape when you said 'do', then the answer is: a lot.
