Pakistan be accorded full membership of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO): PM

Do you think that Russia and China only capable to counter NATO 28 STATES[/URL] members)?

Honestly, NATO can defeat SCO easily due to lack of supports, resources, and cooperations.

If Russia and China truly combined their forces and with a clear goal for global dominance, there is no world powers/[combination of any powers] could confront them. But the game of the SCO was to counter NATO, yes.

But the two don't have the will or a clear motive or rapport to do it. They don't have the will/desire to dictate international orders. And it's probably not a bad thing.

I think confronted with a scenario of a Russia/Power axis, one Japanese media commented: That would be the headquarter of war on Earth, who are their enemies? Aliens?

i think pak has alot to gain from sco membership, and not much at all to gain with nato alliances.

On a side note, I does make me wonder when Putin, Gillani both showed up in Beijing (by accident, or not?), what they all might be talking about...

Hey when India is going to join in

India is an Observer country of SCO just like Pakistan, Iran and Mongolia.

SCO members have encouraged India to join the organisation as a full-time member, because they see it as a crucial future strategic partner.

Additional factors working in favour of India joining the SCO are its major military presence in Central Asia and its close military ties with several Central Asian countries (especially Tajikistan and Russia) and also its deep interest in the region's energy resources.

Factors working against India's joining the SCO as a member include India's persistent military rivalry with fellow SCO-observer Pakistan and its general reluctance to make binding ties to groups that could compromise its strategic independence.

hahah not counting nukes, there is no way nato can even dream of taking on china or russia or both in their own land and win easily, else where however nato will win hands down due to US control of the seas and nato aerial power

Cooperation on security

On a larger scale, but outside the SCO framework, the first ever joint military exercise between the PRC and Russia, called Peace Mission 2005 started on August 19, 2005. Following their successful completion,
Russian officials have begun speaking of India joining such exercises in the future and the SCO taking on a military role.
The joint military exercises in 2007 (known as "Peace Mission 2007") took place in Chelyabinsk Russia, near the Ural Mountains and close to Central Asia, as was agreed upon on April 2006 at a meeting of SCO Defence Ministers. More than 4,000 soldiers participated from China. Air forces and precision-guided weapons were have likely to be used. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said that the exercises will be transparent and open to media and the public.[6][7]

In October 2007, the SCO signed an agreement with the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), in the Tajik capital Dushanbe, to broaden cooperation on issues such as security, crime, and drug trafficking.[8] Joint action plans between the two organisations are planned to be signed by early 2008 in Beijing.[9]

 So any idea of when thats going to happen ?

Pakistan keen to be associated with SCO’s regional counter-terrorism structure: President

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday said that Pakistan greatly appreciates Uzbek support to its bid for the full membership of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and is keen to be associated with SCO’s Regional Counter-Terrorism Structure. The President said this during his meeting with Uzbek Minister of Defence Lt. Gen. Berdiev Kabul Raimovich here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday.

The Uzbek delegation that called on the President included Deputy Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen Niyazov Rustam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Oybek Arif Usmanov, Col Ibadullaev Atabek, Maj Lutfulla Umurzakov, and Mir Shahid Aslanov.

Pakistan side included among others Minister for Defence, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Secretary General to the President M. Salman Faruqui, Senator Babar Awan, Defence Secretary, Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar and other senior officials.

The President during the meeting said that historic and cultural affinities strengthen the fraternal ties of the two countries and Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the Uzbek brothers.

The President said that besides our cultural links, the shared threat of militancy and extremism converges the two countries to work hand in hand to confront the challenge of militancy.

He said that besides expanding cooperation to fight militancy, Pakistan was also keen to enhance its trade with Uzbekistan.
The President said that our prime concern remains the scourge of militancy that has wreaked great miseries upon our people.

Despite suffering huge losses and bearing the worst brunt of this menace, the President said, we would continue to be in the vanguard of international campaign against terrorism. Terrorism, he added, was not the concern of any single country but posed threat to regional as well as international peace.

The President said that a terrorist attack anywhere in the region impacted the entire region and therefore, all regional countries needed to confront it together.

He said that Pakistan firmly believes that restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan was essential for the regional stability and peace and we must assist Afghan institutions in their capacity building.

The President said that militancy and extremism can only be permanently defeated by adopting a holistic approach where socio-economic development of the people of the area is duly focused.

He said that the regional countries need to take maximum advantage of all available platforms that unite them for promotion of inter and intra state economic activities.

The President said that he has been continuously advocating enhancement of regional connectivity as it was the only way forward for any meaningful socio-economic development of the region.

The President said that greater connectivity would enable us fully exploit our trade potentials. He said that Pakistan and Uzbekistan may enter into currency swap arrangement to boost existing trade volume.

The President also noted with satisfaction progress made between the two countries in promoting security cooperation.

Lt. Gen. Berdiev Kabul Raimovich thanked the President for meeting and said that Uzbekistan was keen to further promote its bilateral relations and mutual cooperation with Pakistan.

He also expressed sympathies and grief with the flood affected people of Pakistan on behalf of his Government and Uzbek people.
