Pakistan, Bangladesh to further promote defence cooperation ​

RAWALPINDI, Oct 21 (APP): Pakistan and Bangladesh have expressed the desire to intensify bilateral cooperation in divergent fields particularly in the area of defence.

This was discussed at a meeting between Federal Minister for Defence, Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar and the visiting Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, General Moeen U Ahmed, who called on him on Tuesday in the Ministry of Defence.

The meeting exchanged views on various aspects of defence cooperation and underscored the need for enhanced interaction between the Armed Forces of the two countries, besides promoting people-to-people contacts between the two Muslim countries.

The Minister briefed General Moeen U Ahmed about the potential of the defence industry of Pakistan. He particularly highlighted the combat capability of JF-17 Thunder Aircraft, Al-Khalid and Al-Zarrar Tanks. He also offered assistance to Bangladesh in the field of defence sector.

It was agreed to increase exchanges at different levels and further strengthen the existing linkage for the mutual benefits of two sides. The Minster also apprised the visiting dignitary about the recently concluded visit of the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari to China.

He said that the visit proved highly fruitful and successful, because China- an all weather friend of Pakistan- signed agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pakistan to strengthen the strategic partnership, reinforce the multi-faceted relations and intensify economic, trade and defence cooperation.

Earlier, the Minister welcomed the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh to Ministry of Defence and expressed the hope that his visit would help in strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.

Pakistan and Bangladesh can work on several joint projects

1) Small Arms

* Heckler & Koch MP5 9 mm carbines and the Carbine 1A 9 mm sub-machine guns
* Machine Gun MG-3
* SMG PK, Type 1 & 2 9 essentially an MP5K variant

* Al Khalid II Main Battle Tank: - Reportedly under development, it will replace Al Zarrar and T-59 tanks from 2012.

3) Armored Personnel Carriers(APC)

Pakistani APCs are upgraded and redesigned versions of M113 and are currently being manufactured at Heavy Industries Taxila(HIT).

* Al-Talha - Five roadwheel armored personnel carrier. Pakistan currently operates 400 of these machines and expects to operate 2000 Al-Talha's by 2010
* Al-Hadeed - Armored Repair and Recovery version of Al-Talha.
* Al-Hamza - Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle version of Al-Talha.
* Al-Maaz - Variant fitted with the Baktar Shikan anti-tank missile.
* Al-Qaswa - Armored Logistics Vehicle version of Al-Talha.
* Al-Saad - Armored six roadwheel personnel carrier version of Al-Talha.
* Al-Sakb - Armored logistics support and command post carrier version of Al-Talha. It is fitted with an Integrated Battlefield Management System.

There is nothing wrong in it, the only thing is that all ths stuff being mentioned above is already manufactured in Pakistan and what however can be done is that BD could ask for a TOT.

Pakistan and Bangladesh could first forge a joint security vision and policy. Sometime ago I read a book which explored an idea the authors call "Co-optition", cooperating and competing at the same time, cooperating where there are synergies and competing where there are no or few synergies - developing in the frame of the idea may prove beneficial to both Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Bro, it a changing time and we are living in a hostile world. Look at Iraq, Afganistan and now in pakistan. I wonder who will be next. Muslim are getting killed like animal because we are not united. Imagine the power we could have achive if we all put our resources together. I think islamic world starting to realize this. Pakistan being the the only neuclear Islamic state with strong millitary need to come forward and lead this matter to make it happen. Remeber at the end of the day only the strong will survive with pride and honor. May Allah put some sense to our leaders......

Sure bro, we need to step out of this nationalism like the EU has. We will surely stay nationals of our respective countries, but there is certainly a lot of scope and capacity to strengthen the OIC to promote inter-alia trade, commerce & social ties. United, we stand!

This will also help peace, regionally and internationally!
