We are talking 700 yers ago and they are orthodocs for god sake .
Dont tell me they sale chirch hapily and buy iphone
They sold church so that they can make another one in another place . What's the big deal here if it's not prohibited in Christianity?
By the way what do you mean by
"They are orthodox" ?
There is no hardline sector named orthodox sector in Christianity unlike orthodox Judaism .
Practically all Christian sectors are orthodox other than some new era churches who validate gay marriage !
In reality modern day Christianity has three sector and they are Catholic, Protestant ( with many sub divisions) and orthodox . But be sure ,this orthodox is not like orthodox Judaism ,its just nominally a branch to separate them from others .
Besides, the official name of Eastern orthodox church is Orthodox Catholic church .
But this orthodoxy is not like orthodox Judasim who are very strict in religious practice .
Historically Roman Catholic church ( vatican ) was more orthodox aka conservative than orthodox Eastern church itself .
Ever hard something named
fourth crusade ? This was between catholic ( crusader) and orthodox . Ayyubid sultanate was ally of orthodox Byzantine empire in the crusade .
In the history of crusade ,no crusade happened between orthodox Christians and Muslims, but all crusaders belong to catholic church .
So don't jump to conclusion just by knowing the word orthodox Christianity . As they always were less orthodox (conservative ) than Catholic church historically and that time Christianity was divided only in 2 branch and that is Roman Catholic church aka western Christianity and Eastern Christianity.
However there are another type of orthodoxy called oriental orthodoxy and they aren't considered orthodoxy by Eastern churches because of their different belief regarding the divinity of Jesus Christ . Read about
council of chalcedon. But that's different argument.
So never be fooled by the word
orthodoxy when the case is Christianity . Every branch is Orthodox aka strictly conservative.
