Pakistan backs India for non-permanent UN Security Council seat

Fifty-five countries of the Asia-Pacific group, including Pakistan, have unanimously endorsed India’s candidature for a non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a two-year term.

India’s permanent representative at the UN Syed Akbaruddin thanked the countries for the massive support.

“A unanimous step. Asia-Pacific Group @UN unanimously endorses India’s candidature for a non-permanent seat of the Security Council for a 2-year term in 2021/22,” Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.

Syed Akbaruddin’s tweet also included a video thanking these countries for endorsing India’s candidature.

“Asia-Pacific Group endorses India for Non-Permanent Seat of United Nations Security Council. 55 countries, 1 nominee – India for a non-permanent seat of UN Security Council Term 2021-2022,” the video accompanying Akbaruddin’s tweet said.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey, UAE and Vietnam were among the countries which supported India.

The election for the five non-permanent members of the 15-nation UNSC for the 2021-22 term will be held around June next year. The 193-member General Assembly elects five non-permanent members for a two-year term at UNSC every year.

Before this, India has been a non-permanent member of the UNSC for seven terms.

India is also pushing for the long-pending reform of the Security Council, emphasizing that it rightly deserves a place at the UN Security Council as a permanent member.

this is not big news. I did a term paper on politics in the United Nations. A lot of the voting is based on regional blocs - Latin America, Africa, Arab, Asian, European. Countries (non P-5 members) that are regional rivals routinely support each other in elections. there has to be really bad blood not to support each other. I am sure the next time Pakistan gets its turn for permanent seat. India will have to return the favor.

no. but islam dominates culture in Pakistan like any other Muslim country.

this is why in past 70 years cultural similarities between india and pakistan grown wider at a more Rapid pace and even before independence its a similar case
What r u talking about???
Wider? R u sure?
For the first time in history,,, Whole of Pakistan is speaking a central Indian bhayya language, even ur non bhayyas.
Pakistanis r exposed to Indian culture via movies, serials n all.
Indians r exposed to ur songs dramas culture.
Underneath this fake dushmani a cultural n societal bridge is being built. Ppl r being sensitized to differences.

Aur rahi baat Islam ki,,,it's been just 70 yrs,,, for countries it's nothing.what about after 100-200 years,,, religionr r dying thr natural death, ,religious ppl can cry n moan as much as they want,,, but it is going to happen. What after that.

Oo bhai,,, do really think,, that Pakistans backing means anything.can it bear anything tangible in respect to our UN permanent seat aspiration. Bas aiway hi
You are nobody to say that.

hahahahaha... aakar to dekho jaise ke current 5 permanent members inki bharat mata ne banai hai..

such type of arrogance is harmful my dear neighbors, forget Permanent seat try to get NSG membership without our support...

It's not as ridiculous as it seems. India has been non permanent members many times. They would have been again even if pk did not "support" it. Now ball is in Modi's court. International community will welcome Pakistan's growing pragmatic approach towards India and this will sharply contrast with and highlight any negative moves by India towards Pak. It gives India less credibility when they try to paint us as a pariah state. We aren't North Korea and we can't be isolated and we will always be one step ahead of India diplomatically.

The net result in terms of UN security council is as it would have been anyway, but pk is building its diplomatic profile to take India on where it matters - not in a million years would pk allow India to have a permanent seat and not in a million years would India get its way on Kashmir.

We will continue to surprise you and keep Modi guessing and on the back foot - on EVERY front of your hybrid war.

Again,,, what is UN Or NSG membership,,, nothing but some prestige issue,,, it's not as if these institutions have some absolute power to change somthng(they actually have but u know how it is)
N yes we will eventually get thr,,, if u seriously think that Pakistan has a say,,,then I can't help u

Even China needs allies , relations work on mutual benefits.
Official stand is no talks untill cross border terrorism stops and we will like to keep it.
But in future lets hope we can start having dialogue
There are no iron brotherhoods in international relations. Only interests, which can change. for example China abandoned Pakistan over Masood Azhar because the cost of supporting an international terrorist were becoming more than what benefits China got by supporting Pakistan on the issue.

The UNSC should be abolished because all it has served is be rubber stamp for NATO's invasions of UN membership countries.

@Levina @Joe Shearer @RealNapster @Mentee @Moonlight @Nilgiri @Bilal9
The UNSC is about as obsolete as the rest of the UN. typically the US, UK, and France vote one way and Russia and China vote the other.

We will get it anyway. I hope Pakistan will continue this goodwill gesture.
