Pakistan Assessment 2010

If the world manage to get through 2012  then we'll talk about 2020. BTW what happend to the reports that Pakistan will be divided in 4 parts in 2007 than 2008 than 09 than 10 ........now 2020. WOW

they need to change their liquors, their coffee and their astrologists

Pakistan is a survivor. It's an impossible country to destroy or dismember. People out there, including certain nearby enemy countries, will try.

but in the end, they will fail. We must stay united though and make our country and the people strong. That takes leadership. We dont have that.

Pakistan is fighting extremism and terrorism. Things will only get better from here.

Hey come on now, when did Indians become so kind about Pakistani sources that we should be kind about their sources?

Meh, I remember reading this website and it had listen something about Pakistan that no other website had listed - which makes me question it's authenticity big time. I can't exactly remember what that one thing was as it was a few months back.

Edit:

Just found out now. In their 2009 assessment, they said that ISI chief Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha described Baitullah Mehsud as a "true patriot." This is completely false as Pasha is the current ISI chief and if he said that, the whole media would be all over it and we would see it on many media websites. The only other websites who mentioned Pasha saying this used SATP as their source.

As horrible as 2009 was for Pakistan, it's quiet obvious the country has started to pull itself back together, albeit slower but progress is there. The elected civil govt is half way into it's third year and no matter how much the world view it as a weak puppet administration it will continue to grow stronger with more years passed as quiet evident by some of the tasks accomplished including the constituional reform.

But the world is more interested in Pakistan overcomming terrorism than stablizing their economical and political reform. And quiet interestingly great strides have been made here, too. Though, much work still needs to be done but people need to understand that this problem was let to fester for over two decades. Fingers will be pointed across the table at everyone but the fact remains the aftermath of Soviet-Afghan war was a clossal screw up. Don't expect a quick and easy clean up of that mess.

Instead of making assesment of recent history I think some effort should be taken to make assesments of near future. I see a healthy change coming for Pakistan in the next five years. A democratic election on the heel of it's tenure completed civilian govt, a strong judicial body, a mature and responsible media and a wrapup of intial militay operation phases and startup the rebuild process. Insh'Allah.

Don't be ... Let us know what figures or facts in the article you have a problem with or which line of thought or reasoning you are not happy with. We can debate on that instead of clinging on to one single straw ... Indian source.

A Pakistani source is enough for Indians to disregard an article regardless of what's inside it. How do you expect us to be so kind?

Or are you saying that when it's an Indian source, we should ignore the credibility of the source and worry about the contents and when it's a Pakistani source we should totally disregard the contents because its not credible?

I will still point out the major problem in the article.

The problem is that the source puts the figures together and makes conclusions. It's easy to do cherry pick (which is what the article is doing) and make the situation sound way worse than it is. I stopped reading right after the first line, calling the current situation a "free fall." Sure the situation is not great but it's nowhere near being a free fall. An economic growth of 4.5% (which is decent considering the current situation), record exports, increasing private sector, etc, and things are looking up. Maybe not ground breaking growth, but still decent growth which will only pick up in the next few years.

In other words, the conclusion that report comes up with based on its cherry-picked figures makes me believe the source is biased (which it is, no doubt).

Also, another problem with the source is what I mentioned #26.
