well, if the survey is to be belived then hell! What have you got to lose? Hold a referendum already.
the reason india may be scared is because
a.) they know that vast majority of Kashmiris on the ground --regardless of the result of a british survey -- are opposed to indian occupation
b.) it would set a similar trend among the bengalis, tamils, sikhs and other ethnic groups existing within india --all of which have elements demanding separation or autonomy
real question is, with the bouts of unrest, and with many indians becoming ever-increasingly insecure, how much longer can their artificial occupation continue and persist?
the opponents will talk about conditions conducive for referendum.....why did the pundits run away like sheep in the first place? The excuse is terrorism and militancy, and I think that has been wildly exaggerated by indians; local Kashmiris do have elements that believe in armed resistance (as mentioned in the article) -- obviously some people will resort to armed resistance as this is natural human behaviour
everybody who is versed on the subject knows the brutal tactics that were employed by the heavily armed occupation forces (AKA the sissies).....even the Canadians acknowledged it recently
