I was reading the Christmas wishes on ISPR's Twitter handle and read comments by some people who had an issue with ISPR wishing all of Pakistani Christians on behalf of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This picture should be an apt response to such people. Here is a Christian Brigadier serving in the elitist arm of the Pakistan Army (I am not exactly sure what Brig Julian is commanding but in all likelihood either serving in a staff appointment in Headquarters SSG or in command of one of the SSG brigades) and more importantly with a "yellow" stripe (awarded for suffering a major injury in the conduct of military operations). That in itself is worthy of massive respect towards this community in Pakistan.

MAJOR GENERAL JULIAN PETER:
PAKISTAN’S CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

Major General Julian Peter: Christian Community needs to be acknowledged. When do we honor our state emblem or our national flag? It happens when we praised the struggles of our other communities. The ones who placed a quarter on our flag. The question arises that why we skipped mentioning their names who played a major role in the development of the post-independence Pakistani armed forces whether they’re an army, navy, or in the air force. We must have to bring our rich army names in the mainstream so our gen Z gets to know them.

Over the last years, Pakistan Army has remained the most well-managed, disciplined, and responsive institution of Pakistan, which besides the defense of the country, also carries a rich history of making sacrifices and contributions towards nation-building by assisting the government in various fields.

Let’s dive into the life of Pakistani-Christian Major general Julian Peter.

The more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed in war.

These exercises are the single most valuable element of training that the armed forces go through. Some have said we have SSG going everywhere. What is lost on people is that we send our most capable troops to learn from others. These chaps come back and pass it on to the rest of the Army through Centers of Excellence (CoE) such as NCTC and SOS among others. It also helps gauge whether or not the Army is operating contemporary equipment and tactics. Lots of benefits, very few cons such as cost etc.

The picture is of Gen Akhtar Malik, not General Julian Peter.

Major General Akhtar Hussain Malik, part of the “Ahmadiyya” community, was inducted to the 16th Punjab Regiment of the Indian Army, later opting for the Pakistani Army after partition in 1947.

The General was a man of striking intelligence, and was responsible for conducting the famous Operation Grand Slam of the 1965 War, where the Akhnoor Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir was the prime target. The plan of action was laid by the General, however, during the second day of the operation, in a surprising turn of events; the command was handed over to General Yahya Khan by the then Commander in Chief, General Ayub Khan.

People still speculate about the reason for this transfer; however strategically getting Akhnoor was critical to whole war and it is claimed that General Akhtar Malik was transferred so that General Yahya could get the accolades. For his contributions, he was awarded the Hilal-i-Jurrat, the second highest military award.
