Pakistan Army under COAS inflicted losses on terrorists: US senator

Accomplishments ? Have you ever heard of a place called Swat ?. Forget FATA , in 2007 TTP controlled more than 30% of KPK (N.W.F.P) and most of FATA.

It started with Bajaur.

Then PA moved and cleared Swat valley. Here an entire Militant faction named TNSM was defeated. This was when its leader Mullah Fazlullah (current TTP chief) escaped to Kunar Afghanistan.

Which was followed by a separate offensive in Mommand agency.

Thank you for the update. But did these operations help reduce the number of Pakistanis killed compared to Operation Zarb-e-Azab.

You know nothing about Pakistan`s ops against terror. So don`t poke your nose into matters you dont understand.

I will take this under advisement, Mr. Bean. :D

Sure it did, the TTP numbers in 2007 were somewhere near 15 thousand, before Op ZEA their numbers were 2500 only. The current drastic reduction in terror attacks isnt only because of Op ZEA alone. Op Khyber 1 and Khyber 2 that were lauched last year, were also instrumental, as they cut the supply of TTPs from Kunar & Nuristan . One can also not forget the role of the current government as it managed to get everyone aboard.

Without us USA wouldn't have gotten anywhere in the war on terror. We got Khalid Sheikh Muhammed and Ramzi Yousuf. US should stop its blame game and give their allies respect. That is all we desire. We are not tools to be used by America and be discarded. Treat us as allies, not your slaves.

You have to acknowledge the fact our nations have overcame many obstacles and challenges since we joined hands against terrorism over a decade ago. Our leaders continue to meet regularly to further grow our partnership and strategize against those who pose a threat to the safety of our land and people. This is only possible because we sincerely appreciate each other’s assistance in regards to our shared goals. The U.S. has always acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the region, and issues ranging from defense, military cooperation and regional security, were again discussed during the recent visit by the Pakistani COAS Raheel Sharif. In fact, this is what the director-general of the ISPR, Lt. Gen. Asim Bajwa said regarding General Raheel’s visit: “all meetings were positive and discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere.” He further added: “There is a clear regard and respect for Pakistan and for Pakistan’s armed forces, and progress will be visible in all areas of discussion.”

Pakistan's and the US's current goal in the region is to end the fighting between the taliban and Kabul, along with limiting and reversing the gains made by ISIS in Afghanistan. Gen.Bajwa is completely correct when he says that Pakistan will not fight out side the region, nor does it have to in when fighting ISIS and helping the global effort.

Well outbursts by Leon Panetta and hundreds of other big wigs of the US show that you have no respect for us and blame us for the terrorism situation which you yourself created with the biggest mullahistic dictator in Pakistan known as Zia Ul Haq. So stop getting in our minds and telling us you want the best for us when you don't. You led us on a path of 60000 killed yet we get mere peanuts from the US. Your government calls us traitors when you have abandoned every country you ever supported when it has suited you-including Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee John McCain has said the Pakistan Army, under the able leadership of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, inflicted losses on terrorists after great sacrifice.

In a statement about the committee members’ meeting with the COAS held in Washington, DC, he said: “I thanked General Sharif for his leadership and expressed my appreciation for the sacrifice of so many brave Pakistani soldiers in the fight against terrorism.” The senator said the meeting was productive and informative for all members of the committee. “We value our relationship with Pakistan during these very challenging times. Our meeting focused on the situation in Afghanistan, fight against ISIL and ways to improve coordination and cooperation between our two countries against terrorist enemies. I hope we will continue working closely together in the interest of both our countries,” he added.

we know that, the good senator doesn't have to tell us.

Not really aid more like compensation for expenses incurred.

$31 Billion against a loss of $____ Billion.

And tell me, how much value have you placed on the more than 50,000 killed and hundreds of thousands wounded?

who armed these nutcases ? It wasn't Amerika

You do know the whole "master mind" behind the creation of Taliban was the US to fight off the USSR, right?
Pakistan was a ace under sleeves during the time, considering we didnt want Soviets to get near us, whatsoever.

When you fund something that your going to discard, do it by indirect means where theres no traces left of you, and just in that case, US had it built up through us to hide their trials.

We're nothing but a scapegoat, for the denialists. and that, also includes you who have fallen into the same cateogry.

Stop blaming others for your incompetence

It was Gen Zia and his advisors decision to marginalize secular nationalist Afghans. They wanted someone that can control. they choose the Islamic parties in Afghanistan.

Give up your stupid rant. Unfortunately most of the secularists were left leaning socialist and they sided with the communist government supported by the Soviets. The only group left to take them on was conservative, deeply religious people. In fact even before Pakistan got involved trouble had begun as the deeply conservative muslim tribes in the countryside reacted against the Soviet supported communist government because it had launched the Saur revolution which they considered as threat to their way of life. Next door in Iran a Islamic revolution had overthrown the secular west leaning Shah.

Thus people llike US NSA Zbigniew Brzezinski had already identified the Islamists as the group to support. All this also cooincided with General Zia and his religious leaning. This lead to the perfect marriage of Us/Pak/Saudia. The US to provide strategic management, weapons, Saudi the funding and idealogy, Pakistan to provide the staging post and tactical leadership.

FATA was developed into huge military base to provide training, manpower, logistics and the madaris that sprouted like weeds in Pakistan generated the jihadi cannon fodder. So all three are culpable for what happened. Operation Cyclone was so successful that it defeated the might Red Army and led to Soviet withdrawal.

All the rest is direct blowback of what happened then. The problem today is nobody wants to accept their part in this and Pakistan is left holding the hot potato. However it is nice to see that the man behind the Afghan Jihad US National Security Advisor Brzezinski has the gumption still to say as it was. He accepts that there was jihadi blowback however he has no regrets as he says that is small price to pay for collapse of the Soviet Empire and freedom of Eastern Europe.

Pakistan 1980. Soldiers of God.

Question: The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs ["From the Shadows"], that American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention. In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter. You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?

Brzezinski: Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention.

Q: Despite this risk, you were an advocate of this covert action. But perhaps you yourself desired this Soviet entry into war and looked to provoke it?

B: It isn't quite that. We didn't push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly increased the probability that they would.

Q: When the Soviets justified their intervention by asserting that they intended to fight against a secret involvement of the United States in Afghanistan, people didn't believe them. However, there was a basis of truth. You don't regret anything today?

B: Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter. We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam war. Indeed, for almost 10 years, Moscow had to carry on a war unsupportable by the government, a conflict that brought about the demoralization and finally the breakup of the Soviet empire.

Q: And neither do you regret having supported the Islamic fundamentalism, having given arms and advice to future terrorists?

B: What is most important to the history of the world? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some stirred-up Moslems or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?

Q: Some stirred-up Moslems? But it has been said and repeated Islamic fundamentalism represents a world menace today.

B: Nonsense! It is said that the West had a global policy in regard to Islam. That is stupid. There isn't a global Islam. Look at Islam in a rational manner and without demagoguery or emotion. It is the leading religion of the world with 1.5 billion followers. But what is there in common among Saudi Arabian fundamentalism, moderate Morocco, Pakistan militarism, Egyptian pro-Western or Central Asian secularism? Nothing more than what unites the Christian countries.

CRG -- The CIA's Intervention in Afghanistan

USA has only given us 15 billlion dollars in aid; meanwhile we've lost up to 63 billion dollars in DAMAGES alone.
The figure has crossed $100 Billion of losses according to Zardari. We have lost more than gained from this war. Which is why we should pull away from the USA. We should however continue to fight groups like the TTP and LeJ who will not stop attacks in Pakistan. We should however stop trying to curtail the activities of Haqqanis Gul Bahadurs and Hekmatyars unless something changes and they start attacking us. For us it is a matter of priorities. When we can't protect our own land why make new enemies and work to crush the militants who are not attacking us.
