Pakistan Army has banned its officers from watching Geo news and also reading Jang group news papers in its offices

Some financial losses to Geo for sure if Half a million soldiers are barred from buying Geo/Jang newspapers and tv channels bringing their TV ratings down massively.. but if Geo would receive compensation from foreign nations it wont hurt them

What the Army is trying to do is to prove that it is sacrosanct and immune from any criticism. That is a game they simply cannot win in this day and age. What would be smarter is to embrace the winds of change and participate in the fray rather than taking ineffective steps like this ban.

There is a very thin line between criticism and insult /defaming.
Why did they not take such action 7 or 8 years ago? Its not like news channels have been shut since then. Why now?
They are trying to win a war, that they know they will win, did you not see the support they enjoy in general public....
And some might take it offensive,but the truth is, Generals would not get better opportunity then this to slaughter this goat, which has been running for long now....bakray ki maa akhur kab tak khair manaye gi....

Okay, let us talk about what is criticism, insult and defamation:

Insult is to "speak to or treat with disrespect or scornful abuse."
Defamation is "the act of saying false things in order to make people have a bad opinion of someone or something."

Criticism is the expression of an opinion and must be tolerated. An insult is a perception of disrespect, which says more about the person on entity claiming to have been disrespected. Defamation cannot be proven one way or the other unless there is a formal investigation to judge the truthfulness or falsehood in what has been claimed.

In each of the three cases, the response of the Army, leaves much to be desired.
