Pakistan Army negotiating for Turkish Altay Tanks

AK-2 work was stopped, so don't expect it to enter service soon, funds are issue due to corrupt governments.
And when did that happen?

Last time i heard it was still under development.. according to HIT officials ...

Do you have some other source ? Please provide.

It was also shared here as HIT did not had funds, even AK-1 production suffered, that is why PA is looking off the shelve purchase of tanks as HIT can not keep up pace of building tanks in required numbers.

"To develop" does NOT mean "developed". Read above post on why Altay was never really considered as it failed on multiple fronts.
Altay is not going to fail now the reason is because Germany refusing to upgrade Leopard tank for turkey and that means Turkey has no other option.

Your point on Ammo is 100% valid and I will take that as more serious reason for not inducting Altay.

Plus the Al-Khalid 2 is in some kind of progress mode as well. The recent visits to Poland the Ukraine factor and every thing else shows things moving in different direction. It is too early to say what will happen so I will have to agree with you here because there is no clear path currently.

I asked for a source dude..

I can post mine... including new subsystems for AKII ..

How credible is this news? I thought Pak Army was testing VT4 and OPLOT...so why would they all of a sudden start negotiating for Altay without even testing it? Moreover it's engine is still in development by Turkey.
Its a random tweet ... by some random guy...

About a tank still under development... vs AK-II project and Oplot & VT4 trials.

Ok good to know

On a side note...I would personally like OPLOT as Al-Haider with upgrades so it has certain key features that it lacks compared to VT4...and the subsystems from Turkey(Altay) going in both Al-Khalid and Al-Haider to increase commonality between the two as much as possible. Of course I also hope that Pak would also produce Oplot-P locally(under license). These two over time should replace all other older tanks and form the high/low mix in Pak army...though this is all just my wish :enjoy:

Then post it please and what I say is posted on PDF with source already.

Oplot is a better choice.. due to commonality with UD and its upgrade..

Dude, this guy has posted some tweets in the past which i thought were sensational but proved to be on the target hence i posted him here. Else this news has been circulating for over a year now.

Here is it, again

It is too heavy for desert region and plains, especially for Cholistan, Tamewela/ Bahawalpur region. Anything above 55 ton and it will become a nightmare to operate in that part of the world.

We have no ammo, neither do we make any for 120mm smoothbore.

German engines have failed in that region before as one was mounted on an AK prototype.

At around $9-10 a piece, it is too expensive for PA.

What?

I thought we were negotiating for oplot or vt-4

At around $9-10 a piece, it is too expensive for PA.

we can get 2 oplot in the price of an altay and its easy for PA to operate vt-4 because of having large numbers of t-80uds

Thanks for posting hope things go as said but reality is different in Pakstan when it comes to implementation, several thing are reported by Janes and in Senate but never materialized, if you remember about fighter jet purchase.

Go for it. Get Turkey onboard for AKII as well.

Turkey could have offered a better offer/business model. Maybe it isn't intended for desert warfare in first place??
