We often discuss the negatives of the War on Terror but there are notable positives as well, many soldiers and FC are becoming more experienced with the battlefield, more battle cohesiveness, planning, practicing, and learning is being accumulated.

Many soldiers involved have years of battle experience now, their alertness/situational awareness, nerves, eyesight, hearing, thinking, hand and foot work all are being sharpened.

In a way this war against the TTP is keeping the PA sharp and allowing PA to use up old ammunition stocks that were soon to be expired and out of date. Soldiers are getting real battlefield experience in use of ground troops and attack helicopters, mortar teams, snipers, patrol units, counter-insurgency, etc all are being trained and improved over the past few years. Another benefit of this war is PA can discover weaknesses in soldier's performance and training and rectify the mistakes and weaknesses.

There are many armies around the world whose soldiers haven't fought in any battle for many years and have zero battle experience. So I thought we look at the War on Terror from an alternative point of view.

Here's just an example of, these soldiers becoming more battle harden. They say no amount of training can truly prepare you for actual battle.

It is also improving and testing PA's mobility and logistics and deployment of units and overall readiness.

Sorry but I'll dare to disagree. I don't know what kind of idiot trains the soldiers to "stand" guard their hilltop posts besides a fluttering flag. I, as a civilian know that a person standing on a hill top stands out like a sore thumb and presents himself as an easy target for snipers, standing in hostile weather also tires the soldiers and drains their energy faster while carrying that heavy rifle, ammo and accessories.

Why can't they guard it while lying down (as in shooting position), dressed incamo, with bi or tri pod mounted long range precission rifles and heavy machine guns and aided bwith field bino's or spotting scopes?

Why do they have to be inside or beside their mud/stone build posts, which are an easy target for RPG?

Bravery does not mean stupidity. First priority should be protection of soldiers, only well protected soldiers are able to achieve assigned targets, which is protection of a post, position, building, asset, or whatever.

anti-terror operations are a totally different game than a war with another country

This is an automatic learning. This wasn't intended, desired or seeked as a primary objectives. However its good that our soldiers are battle hardened and have seen, lived and participated in the real-battles from which they and their juniors to come will keep benefiting from. Pakistan had its light battle 40 years ago.. I think this learning will be valued by many within the army as valuable and needful experience.

Also this is a different kind of training/learning which our soldiers have gone under. It is a war against gorilla tactics and unclear enemies which is 3rd generation warfare tactic.. but it should be taken as a welcome learning for sure.

Yes you are 100% right about Pak Army getting experience from the war of terror & this will benefit Pak Army & as well as the Intel Agencies a lot.

Compare that to Indian Army's 50 years experience in N-E and Kashmir.India's N-E is like Vietnam. The most highly trained troops in the IA are deployed in the N-E...

My intention is not trolling but obviously the comparison is with India right?

P.S-These are Infantrymen not SF operators and the video is 3 yrs old.

How many Pakistani soldiers are actually fighting the war on terror ??, i bet its not Icarus .

Anti terror War is a synonym of invading and holding a place-

So when we capture some indian cities we will not let it go-

since we are experienced in that- We will play the game of terrorists and counter insurgency there- just like amrika do in any country it invades-

Does that even matter?

Over 140,000 Soldiers and 10,000 FC.

Presently, one brigade and three infantry battalions of the 19th Infantry Division and six Frontier Corps wings are deployed in Bajaur while only one infantry battalion and six FC wings are deployed in Mohmand Agency, the security sources said.

“Additional brigades are to be moved to these areas as cover-up shield against runway militants,” officials said, adding that South Waziristan already had sufficient troops with four infantry brigades, 11 battalions, seven FC wings and a division deputed there.

The NWA currently has one division, five brigades, 12 battalions and 11 FC wings while additional troops would start reaching the area from alternate divisions after the Eid, security sources said.

Agreed. However, on thing is for sure, special-ops will gain all the necessary experience, plus not to forget logistics and co-ordinated command.

If we had the 'extra' cash, we would have become one of the most fit asymmetric force on the planet!
