Hi,
The Syrians are not fully trained to use such systems. In the only video available on the internet where a T-90 was attacked with TOW , it wasn't destroyed. Even though the Shtora was allegedly turned off. The ATGM slid off the turret and couldnt penetrate the armor. Please share any info to the contrary if possible.

Btw, It is highly unlikely that such a system can affect the engine. Most likely will disrupt the targeting and range-finding systems. I'd assume that's good enough in most cases. Since if you can disrupt enemy's targeting capability for a while, the enemy becomes vulnerable to attack.

What the hell dude!!It has got nothing to with training of the crew,and even if the Shtora had been kept on,it could have done nothing against a SACLOS missile like TOW because these ATGMs do not sport any types of seeker to begin with,so there are nothing onboard those missiles for Shtora (or any other soft kill APS like Vartra) to jam!!Plain and simple.

Its not Shtora, its just IR light for illumination.



Probably they mean something like this system on Chinese type 99 tank:




Located on the turret roof is the electro-optical countermeasures suite just behind the gunners hatch. The system has laser warning receiver (LWR) with a box-shape active laser self-defence weapon (LSDW). The powerful LSDW is capable of disrupting the enemy's missile laser/infrared guidance signal. It can also disable the enemy's optics and can damage the enemy gunner's eyesight.

These types of systems may sound impressive but their practical usefulness would be highly debatable since modern optics come equipped with filters to counter the effects of hostile dazzlers.

The lase/EMP can screw a tank ... It might not "jam" it's engine but it can "blind" a tank...

Keeping in mind that all the tanks in the ex themselves were using 3rd gen French subsystems ..including the ones/adversaries facing the ones equipped with laser/EMP system .. .giving favourable results... It indeed can prove deadly for even the top tier (T-90s) Indian tanks...

It can,no questions there....................unless ofcourse the optronic sensors come equipped with filters!!
