A Pakistan army contingent will be stationed in Saudi Arabia on a "training and advisory mission", a press release from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

The announcement followed a meeting between Saudi Arabia's Ambassador, Nawaf Saeed Al-Maliki, and Pakistan Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa earlier today at General Headquarters Rawalpindi.

During their meeting, Gen Bajwa and Al-Maliki discussed matters of "mutual interest", including the regional security situation, the ISPR press statement said.

The contingent will join Pakistani troops that are already stationed in Saudi Arabia and "will not be deployed outside the Kingdom", the statement read.

Pakistan already has around 1,180 troops in Saudi Arabia under a 1982 bilateral agreement. The deployed troops are mostly serving in training and advisory roles, according to a report.

Both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share strong military ties. Pakistan is one of the 41 members of the Saudi-led Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) that is being headed by a former army chief, the retired Gen Raheel Sharif. The military alliance was formally launched by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman last year.

Everyone here is missing the REAL reason why the above has happened. In the recent war between the Yemenis and Saudis, the Saudi military have been suffering a severe beating and humiliation at the hands of the Yemeni forces. Even their elite troops have been thoroughly destroyed. Had it not been for the unlimited supply of the world's most advanced weapons systems from the americans and military support from the Arab league, Saudi Arabia would now be part of a greater Yemen. The need of the hour is for a highly trained, highly skilled, brave, formidable & elite fighting force. This is where the PA answers this call. A military that has successfully thwarted and taken on an enemy that is more than 7x bigger than us and has abundant access to the world's most advanced weapons systems whilst we are denied this privilege for over 70 years. The PA is there to protect the Saudi territory from invasion and upheaval. Primarily to protect Makkah and Medina. Unfortunately they will also end up carrying out special forces missions against the Yemenis, dressed up as Saudi soldiers. I am TOTALLY AGAINST that myself and it is a BIG NO NO. But what can we do?

in short, Pakistan is playing mercenary force for KSA? Pakistan shouldnt be party to the war between Yemen and KSA - I would have liked if Pakistan played a unifying force in the muslim world - not increase the differences.

Unfortunately Yes as military fighting is to Saudis what creating advanced civilisations is to Sub-Saharan Africans.

I would rather KEEP WELL CLEAR of this situation. Hope this doesn't come back to haunt us....

We have to balance the deficit in account by other means. If USA is not going to give money we have other option. Yes we are mercenary. Our army is available on low rates and they don't care what will happen in home. They need money

Good move, KSA are still our allies. Nothing wrong with this at all, we don't need to be worried about any other country getting offended in our dealings, just like we shouldn't get offended if a friendly nation has dealings with our rivals.


Each nation needs to primarily look after its own interests.
