Exactly. They are easy to integrate but offer much more energy savings. It makes more sense to install a solar-power system just for lighting since the costs would not be too high for such a low energy system.

I've already replaced some savers with LED (even though I'm in a petro-country where electricity bills are abnormally high lol)

Well many many in Islamabad including are Using 3 W and 6 W SMD light it's bright Saves Energy reduces bill and have a guarantee of 2 years some even have 3 years

Brother where did you get these SMDs, and for how much? I live in Islamabad too, and I would love to have an option of lower costs.

As for net metering, it makes NO sense, if govt doesn't (or rather cannot) provide 24/7 electricity!

First govt must provide the electricity (i think it's called baseload) then we can rewind the cycle on our end. This also, btw requires top notch infrastructure to handle all this load, and a good metering and collection system.

Maybe in societies like Bahria town and DHA it makes sense.

Pakistan Approves Net Metering and Feed-in Tariffs for Solar and Wind

Pakistani power regulators have approved a regulatory framework for solar and wind energy for both commercial and residential installations. The framework includes feed-in tariffs for commercial power producers and net metering for residential applications of up to 1 MW.




Under the new Net Metering Law, NEPRA, the Pakistani power regulator, will grant power generation licenses to solar and wind system owners. The owners will need to register the critical equipment used, particularly the make and model of inverter and generator used. Among other technical considerations, the generator must also install a manual disconnect device to take the system off the network if necessary, according to details published by PV Tech publication.

Net metering is a billing mechanism that pays solar energy system owners for the electricity they add to the grid. It allows a residential customers with rooftop solar panels to generate more electricity than the home uses during daylight hours and sell it to the power supply company. It will require a bi-directional meter (or two separate meters) for implementation.

Pakistan has already introduced feed-in tariffs (FiTs) for larger renewable power systems to supply electricity to the national grid on a commercial scale. It paved the way for a 1000 MW Quaid-e-Azam solar park being built in Bahawalpur.

Pakistan's renewable power policy and regulatory frameworks have drawn praise from international law firm Eversheds which has described the country as “one of the most exciting renewables markets globally, with an abundance of potential”. Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) of Pakistan's CEO, Amjad Ali Awan has said that "Pakistan’s renewable market is relatively new but it provides an attractive investment opportunity with compelling structures which make it bankable as well as marketable."

They should allow duty free imports of solar panels from China.

This would be excellent as consumer will be able to recoup the cost of installation through selling electricity to the grid.

But we will need public awareness for this. There should be ads on how soon people will be able to recoup costs. Certainly they'll then choose this over fuel generators.

In areas of KPK where Gas is available esp from Kark block, people have installed generators bigger than capacity of 12KVA and those are made locally. I wonder if those are connected on micro level then lots of power from National grid would never be needed for these areas. But if there at all is a will.

Now may be the best time to invest in solar energy as oil prices are low and this has probably forced solar panel makers to reduce their prices as well in order to compete in the market. Maybe some more learned member can expand on this?

Go to G-8 behind PEMRA building (Peshawar Morr) go to any shop and ask for SMD it cost 300 to 600 or if you want more cheaper then go to City Saddar road Pindi there a huge market you'll find all kind of SMD LED rope Lights even Disco Lights (shop keepers calls that as it changes Colors Green Blue red Yellow etc etc with Remote)

It's already Duty Free... as per 2015 Budget you can import Solar Panels with 0% Duty

What is your personal opinion of them? Which ones are you using, and how effective are they? What watt bulbs do you suggest? I have seen the LED "rope" things, but I don't think they suit a house.

m Using both of them....

But SMD has a chip instead of Bulb and LED has 1 watt bulbs in it 3 watt 5 watts 7 watts 9 watts 12 watts....

SMD is a lot Brighter then LED ... LED is like a spot light (If you compare both LED and SMD 3 Watts each)

SMD lasts longer then the LED
