Something definitely needs to be done here. The concerns need to be disseminated properly. This blasphemy law needs to be scrapped, it's being misused.
Wouldn't it be better they are sent to a seminar to explain the sensitivities? The person could become devout or never "blaspheme" again, isn't that a better outcome? Even child murdering TTP terrorists got a 2nd chance by going to re-education camps in FATA
Personally, we hear examples of the Prophet PBUH's forgiveness, even in cases of blasphemy or physical harm against him.
For example, the Prophet PBUH owed a jew some money. The jew demanded the money back but the Prophet PBUH wasn't able to pay back right away. The jew got physical and slightly hurt the Prophet. Hazrat Umar R.A. who was in attendance got furious and unsheathed his sword, only to be stopped by the Prophet PBUH.
I am of the opinion that this does no good to the effort to curtail blasphemy. Rather, the more you try to stop if by force, the more people will do it. Those who commit blasphemy. Allah will be their Judge as He will be our Judge.
