INDRA EW pod is already procured.
AESA and EW suite have to come from same manufacturer.
Captor E is reserved for EFT user countries only.
LGBs are now local product. ATP is in finalisation, but is likely not to be Chinese.
Good question. The issue is integration. This is relatively easier when you are using a TWT based radar like KLJ7, you can opt for poded EW ASPJs. However, in the AESA world, what works is what someone can take responsibility of, and a buyer cannot take responsibility of AESA and EW suite coming from two different sources. Hence, a tightly integrated solution, wherever it comes from, is required to have full utilisation of AESA.
PAF shall procure the block III AESA/inbuilt EW suite based on many factors such as availability, price, control, local support, industrialisation, source code transfer etc. PAF is not new to AESA technology for ground or air systems, but since JF17 is a long term investment, she is being a conservative one, and with the factors involved, this may just be the Chinese at the end of the day.
