Pakistan and Indian Troops dancing together at conclusion of SCO military exercise

One of my Uncles , May Allah bless him with jannah and give his family Sabr, used to tell me stories about his time at the front line in Kashmir. He would be eyeball to eyeball with the Indian enemy a few yards apart. The Pakistani soldiers and Indian Soldiers would exchange food , play cards together , crack jokes etc but when the order came to fire, guns would be drawn and firing to kill started. One thing that I remember he complained of was the toughest survival training he was given. Dumped in the middle of nowhere with no food and water they had to survive for a week before a helicopter came and picked them up.

I was forced to learn this crap poem at school by my history teacher. If a single mistake , even a question mark comma or full stop then a detention was given and the written recital would have to be redone.
Yes , this poem in syllabus too. But its wording are strong and it gives a insight of military tradition. This poem is loved by many military personal around the world.

Special Forces are not just about kinetic action, making dynamic entry and blowing up things. A big role that the SSG takes up is interaction with armed forces of the other countries and also the populace. A ton of time that SSG spends is on responsibilities like UNPK and FID training etc. These are done to enhance Pakistan's influence and image among other things such as given SF troops experience to operate in environment outside of their own locale. Special Forces are usually more flexible to take these roles on. As the SSG has grown in size, it can afford to send small detachments for such things.

How so? You think just because Indians and Pakistanis were in the same place, Pakistanis should have stood in a corner sulking with stern faces while all of the other troops at the exercise mingled?

The two nation theory is as alive today as it was on the morning of Aug 14th 1947. Don't let anyone tell you that the separation of East Pakistan negated the theory. We are two different nations but that does not mean that we have to be at each others' throats all the time just to remind that "Two nation theory" is alive and kicking. What more could prove that than the fact that we have borders, we speak different languages, we practice different religions, we require visas and passports to visit each other.

Such exchanges open up opportunities for talks and discussions. Turks and Greeks meet up in NATO exercises and have fun. US and Chinese troops likewise. Lets not overthink this please. Two infantry detachment overseas from Pakistan and India are bound to find some affinity if the politics from back home are left out of professional interaction in a multinational ex.

They are NEVER aggressive unless there is a person who has an imbalance. Opinions on politics will always differ but that is to be expected.

Leaving that aside, both sides have professional soldiers. They do what they are ordered to do. There is no personal gripe in this affair. If they meet each other in foreign countries, they are supposed to do so with military courtesy and the norms of their respective service. I do not think there has ever been an episode of indiscipline or conflict between these two sides while serving with the UN.

I think it was a situation of being caught in the moment. All the senior officers were standing in a line and they were being accorded the Indian custom and the Pakistani officer was subjected to the same.

I honestly feel many here are making too big a deal out of this.
read post#76.

The angriest are those who have never picked up a gun except act tough against the defenseless.

The Americans dance at functions we arranged for them during their base deployments here.

Did not stop them from raining hell on Salala and did not stop us from retaliating in a different sphere.

The same soldier who shoots a MANPAD at an Indian aircraft will not hesitate to call air support from a Indian gunship deployed with them on a UN mission.

These “tough guy” folks against Indians are the ones that lead men into Kargil and then disown them when their best laid plans fail.
And the same tough guy “surgical strikes” Indians are the ones who abandon posts at the first sign of Pakistani sniper fire whilst the soldier that exchanged the sweet is the one who dies under it standing his ground.

Those who are ready to do and die, are also ones who are most averse to killing and bloodshed.

Whatever you want to do just keep into account what an ordinary Kashmiri who has lost his loved ones and who pin his hopes on Pakistan army will interpret it. A light chatter is another thing.

If Jammu radio receives Pak army soldier requests then it should be taken as a disciplinary matter.

Do remember, army will lose its credibility to question civilian leadership if it doesn't control such things.

Perceptions matter a lot. Regards
The ordinary Kashmir wants NOTHING to do with the Pakistan Army. Infact , by encouraging pinning hopes we will ruin what is currently a very home grown and supported insurgency. The Kashmiri cause has to be Kashmiri otherwise just like 65 they will report our movement to Indian soldiers.

*Pagan custom.

No problem if we dance around but symbolically the pagan traditions of stamping the "Third Eye" could have been avoided in a respectful manner. In the background we have the Indian state trying their level best to abolish the article 35-A of the Indian Occupied Kashmir while the local clansmen continue to bury their dead in Pakistan's flag. The timing wasn't right in my opinion since symbolism goes a longer way than temporary customs of appeasement and submission.

Best post of the entire thread!

Kashmir has to be emancipated by Kashmiris. There is very little that Pakistan can do if the Kashmiris on their own don't agitate.

What the..... I don't understand, how this poem made it to history subject?????
Lol
When taught about the Crimean war. Was taught history from the Englishman's perspective, Boston tea party, Defeat of Napolean, Waterloo, Sinking of the Spanish Armada, Clive of India, Defeat of the Moors and Turks etc etc, never been stuffed with that much colonial crap in my life. After consuming all this colonial food the English kids used to think they were the greatest until they got a smack in the mouth.

It's a Hindu or pagan custom.
Accepting it is tantamount to believing in it. The officer should never have accepted it.

This poem is related but teaching it in history, anyway but the main topic of history should be creamian war not the poem yes the poet along with poem is part of history

I don't know who was appeasing whom but had this been US and Russian militaries, this wouldn't have happened. Camaraderie is one thing but when you are sworn enemies, a dignified distance needs to be kept. Clapping should have been more appropriate for our over-enthusiastic SSGs.
