I wanted to ask a question about Pakistan and India's nuclear weapons programs as I could not find much information.

After these countries tested these weapons did they not get condemned and sanctioned by UNSC members and if they did how long did these last?

If a country today tries to make nuclear weapons what do you think the UN and other nations do in response, only sanctions or other measures?

Formulate your thread with better words.

Only sanctions? OOOnly sanctions? o_O

. .
India got heavily sanctioned.

Its nuclear plants ran out of fuel.

6 Type 209 submarines got cancelled.

Several GE 404 engines got held back.

Several TN/TPQ 37 got held back.

These 3 I remember off the back of my head.

Hundreds such equipment and systems got held back.

Affects will there all over the military.

Well world is kinda hypocritical.
India got sanctioned on 1998 although India had nukes since 1974.May be west considered India as a threat.
Now days most P5 are in support of India.Sanction against India is out of question now.

So as long as you can withstand the sanctions, any country that has the capability can build nukes?

they imposed sanctions, Pressler amendment in 90's and more stricker sactions after tests but since they needed Pakistan's cooperation in Afghanistan they have to normalize relations, and they did by lifting sanctions. I dont know about bharat.

Pakistan India and Israel has not signed non proliferation treaty and are not bound by any international law regarding nuclear safe guards ... so they cannot be questioned or sanctioned by UNSC ... but yes US imposed sanctions... mostly ineffective

They stopped sophisticated defense equipment deals specially our F-16 procurement program and even not returned our amount since then.

Is that what I said!!
Do you see Russia China sanctioning Iran or NK?No..
I clearly highlighted that nukes are practically not the context of sanction but world politics..1998 sanction was basically west's cold war mentality as India sided with Soviet in past.
India has too many hostile neighbors. So for 1.3 bn people it's justifiable.Nukes are the only way to counter all of them at once. Now India is neither provocative to Russia nor to USA.China doesn't matter.Sanctions are out of question.

No. They can not. Anyone signatory to NPT can not. Period. Although there are clauses to get out of it, however, I don't think there is a chance in hell that any Nuclear Weapons State will ever allow that.

On the other hand, India, Pakistan and Israel were never members of NPT, in any shape or form. Hence no UN sanctions or blockades of any sort. The only sanctions that Pakistan and India got hit with were of nominal nature, call it a slap on the wrist.

Furthermore, it's not just NPT, there are other treaties such as CTBT/FMCT related to the testing of weapons and reduction of fissile materials, which were shoved down the throats of nations once they signed NPT. Luckily again - Pakistan, India and Israel never signed nor ratified any of these treaties.

Ironically, it was India's first test in the 70's that brought all of these highly discriminatory treaties into action and almost all nations got locked into them (minus few lucky ones).

On the flip side, the big nuclear powers came up with various dicriminatory clubs and groupings (for their loved ones) to bypass the locks and checks in place, example being NSG, to control and monopolize the nuclear cycle, both bomb related and civilian, although they say it's exclusively civilian, however, even a monkey with two functional neurons very well knows that all the items on the control list, down to a screw are of dual use nature.

It's an unfair world. Live with it.

So as long as you can withstand the sanctions, any country that has the capability can build nukes?
