Pakistan ambassador has kidnapped by miscreants. Taliban said that they took him with body guard and driver, but Interim ministry think that Ambassador is not in hand of Taliban. And a search operation is currently underway. Taliban offered to release his commander for ambassador Mr. Tariq.

If he is not in the hands of the Taliban, then in whose hands is he in one wonders.

Why should such a high ranking officer of the Pakistani diplomatic corps travel by road, especially in the badlands of both Pakistan and Afghanistan instead of taking the usual air route.

Obviously, there are good reasons and those good reasons seem to have gone foul!

ISLAMABAD — Local Taleban militants, who claimed they have kidnapped the Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan, yesterday demanded the release of Mullah Mansoor Dadullah, who was wounded and captured on Monday.

According to a bureau chief of an Arab TV channel, local Taleban militants claimed that they kidnapped Ambassador Tariq Azizuddin and have asked tribal leaders to pass on the message that they were ready to free Azizuddin in exchange for Dadullah.

Ayub Afridi, a tribal elder from the Khyber region where Azizuddin was kidnapped, confirmed Taleban militants’ offer.

Pakistani officials said yesterday that they are searching for Azizuddin, who was abducted yesterday from Tehsil Jamrood in the Khyber tribal region.

Azizuddin was on his way to Kabul from the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar when he went missing along with his driver and bodyguard. Security forces began a search in Terah Bazar with roadblocks and vehicle searches.

A security official said the envoy was to change cars at the border but he did not show up and was believed to have not reached the border.

Reports of the suspected vehicle involved in the abduction being sighted in Terah Bazaar Zakhakhel led to the search operation.

“The Pakistan ambassador to Afghanistan has been kidnapped while traveling to Afghanistan,” Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai said. “I hope he is safe and I hope he will be released soon.”

Later yesterday, in a message aired on Radio Kabul, Karzai asked Taleban leaders to release Azizuddin. “Our law enforcement and other agencies in Khyber are carrying out a search operation,” said Interior Ministry spokesman, Javed Iqbal Cheema. “We hope we should be able to trace and recover him soon.”

The historic Khyber Pass is the main road link to landlocked Afghanistan in northwestern Pakistan.

There is fresh development a news from Taliban today says they dont have the ambassador.

Now lets wait and see. If the abductors are still in Khyber Agency then be sure he would be recovered but if the kidnappers are in Afghanistan then well -----

Why should the Taliban on either side of the border kidnap?

And why should the Ambassadior take the route by land when there is so much of lawlessness happening on either side?

There's nothing to say why he is going on a land route. :hitwall: He is the govt. person and he knows better than us, who is right. And also you should know that very few people knows about these journeys (security forces, agencies) and They don't tell all the people "see the ambassador is going to Afghanistan".

But somebody DID tell the kidnappers.

What exactly are you driving at?

You have mmentioned the following"

1. There is nothing to state why he was travelling by a land route.
2. He is a govt official and he know his onions and is correct.
3. None know about the route.

Good.

Now, if he is a govt official and who knows everything, then surely he is well aware of the rebellious situation on both sides of the border, where neither the PA nor the NATO are in full control of the sitaution to warrant a failsafe journey. So, I taken it that since the Ambassador knows his onions as you claim, he should have known the consequences. Therefore, obviously he took this route for some specific purpose and that purpose apparently became a damp squib!

Further, it must have been important for him to go by the land route since I am sure he was aware of the conequencea, more so, because there are many moles in the machinery wherein even the President of Pakistan is not safe and has been ambushed a number of times!
