Pakistan Air Force VVIP Boeing 707 sold for only Rs8.4 million

There is currently a 1962 707 listed for sale at around $75,000 on aviation classified, here's a link:

Boeing 707 for Sale - Used Airliner Sales at GlobalPlaneSearch.com

So if PAF sold it for around $105,000(at 2008 exchange levels) of a 1970's plane, it is not a bad deal at all considering the economic recession at that time in the world.

It does not look a suspicious deal at all.
Oh Allah kay bandayyy. That 75,000 dollars isnt its over all value. Jesus christ. You honestly think they would sell an airplane for 75 grand. The 75 grand is the value of dry lease.

An audit report by the Ministry of Defence has revealed that a VVIP Boeing 707 of the Pakistan Air Force was sold for just Rs8.4 million.

The sale which took place in 2008 was not in consultation with the Finance Division. The plane was sold to a private individual without an auction. Documents provided by Pakistan Air Force stated that the Boeing 707 was in good condition. Neither the book value nor the purchase price of the plane was provided for the audit.

According to Air Force officials, the case was reviewed in the Air Headquarters before the aircraft deal and it was suggested to the Lahore Air Force base that the aircraft should be auctioned.

The audit calls for the Ministry of Defence to probe the sale of the plane and hold those responsible accountable.

Pak Air Force VVIP Boeing 707 sold for only Rs8.4 million - thenews.com.pk

PAF should look towards building up its own VIP transport wing that can be used by Pak Military Personal(PA, PN, PAF and Paramilitary along with Govt. people as well.) Such fleet would have small, medium and large size turbo props as well as Business and other transport jets too.

. . .
Buy this and convert into lavish home, weather proof, earthquake proof. 84 Lakh PKR will not buy you a Kothi/House larger than 2 bedroom in Major Pakistan or Indian city. Why not buy this and live like a king, one can even rent few portions and earn a decent money.

.
Why was it sold was it because there were too many flight miles logged on plane ? could it not be converted into a air fuel tanker?

with the way the country is being run, these guys dont deserve anything better than a bullock cart....if they want anythig then give them a Fi156 and strap them on the wing when they are transported.......

The plane would have may be been similar to the F16 air refueling tankers

Unless the plane could not be modified but the sale price is cheaper then a Suzuki pick up

The only problem with this 707 is that its way too costly to operate.
Not to mention finding parts would be a nightmare.
They should've dismanteled it, instead of selling it for pennies.
PAF would've got some money back, at least a few million dollars.

The plane should have been kept in the PAF museum in Karachi and could have been used to give tours or something. Boeing 707 were the pioneering aircraft of the time. They should have preserved this beauty.

The Tragic But True Fate Of The 707

September 6, 2013: There’s another military corruption scandal in Pakistan. What’s different here is that it’s apparently not a scandal, but journalists unfamiliar with what’s going on in their own air force and the second-hand aircraft business in general. The Pakistani story centers on a surplus Pakistani Air Force Boeing 707 airliner that had been converted to a VIP transport (for senior government and military officials) and was sold off (not auctioned) for $80,000. The basic accusation is that the air force could have obtained a lot more for the 707 if it were auctioned off instead of being “given away” to someone who obviously paid a bribe.

The reality is rather more different. The Boeing 707 became obsolete a decade ago as most countries adopted new jet engine noise regulations that barred the use of 707s at major airports (and many minor ones). You could upgrade the 707 to comply, but it was cheaper to buy a new aircraft (that was cheaper and safer to operate than the elderly 707). Only 1,010 707s were built (from 1958 to 1979) but it was a sturdy and reliable carrier of freight as well as passengers and continued in use for decades before rising fuel prices and maintenance costs made it too expensive to use.

The Boeing 707 commercial transport is actually a civilian version of the original KC-135 (of which 732built between 1956 and 1965 and evolved from the World War II B-29 heavy bomber.) By 2000 the 707 was not the sort of aircraft VIPs wanted to travel in. Naturally it was difficult to find a buyer for the Pakistani 707 and it was eventually sold to someone in 2008 for $80,000. This is essentially scrap value. It’s unclear what happened to the VIP aircraft. Either it was scrapped or it had the VIP stuff ripped out and was pressed back into use as a “tramp freighter” in parts of the world where jet engine noise and flight safety are not major concerns.

The U.S. Air Force used to be a major player in the second-hand 707 market as the military was, until recently, converting them to military uses (AWACS and J-STARS) but even that has shifted to more modern aircraft designs. Until a decade ago you would buy an old 707 for less than a million bucks then spend $25 million turning it into an aerial tanker or several times that to produce an AWACs. These days, the Boeing 737 is preferred for this sort of thing.

That shows level of corruption in our forces. They must be audited

Not a chance.

You would struggle to get more than $500 000 for a 747 classic. Not sure how you would get a few million for a 707.

So you expect some one ( an idiot ) to pay anything more than half a million dollars for a POS busted *** plane?

Think before you spout.
