Pakistan Air Force receives the first SAAB 2000 ERIEYE AWE&C aircraft

The PAF was seeking the ex-Peace Gate III/IV fighters from USAF and USN. It successfully acquired the 14 F-16s from USAF, but the USN is reluctant to release its fleet. Irrespective of what happens with USN, the USAF is also willing to give PAF a number of its F-16C/Ds.

for me the issue is getting 12/15 F-16s MLUed from whichever source.

.
Congratulation,
Great day for PAF,:smitten:
:pakistan:

.
Good use of Money by General (ret) Pervez Musharraf plus 18 F16-52

Dude you are giving credit to musharaf like he paid from his pocket for these Aircrafts

Man! he could have put all the money in his pocket too without doing nothing for the nation, like you know who.
At least there was give and take for the nation :azn:

.
Congrats to all. This indeed is a great addition in PAF's capabilities.

It has ECM systems like flares and chaffs. But it will be protected by fighter aircrafts, i hope we get HQ-9 kind of SAM system with atleast 150KM range to give added protection to these assets, as with such SAM these AEW&C assets can roam around behind the SAM protection and with 10-15 SAM systems nearly all Pakistan can be covered. As SAM and air protection will give it very sound and good defensive protection.

what u want a breaking news and next day u will find a attack on airbase i think we are at war :pakistan::pakistan:

well sure, that's a given. We have multiple outlets reporting the bad news which we have become addicted and acquainted with.

But there should be a seperate channel that focuses on military only. If Hezbollah can have al-Manar, then I think we should also have a military channel as ours is a professional Armed Forces.

US Army/Navy/Air Force related discussion and shows come on their Discovery Channel on a seperate channel called Military Channel. We should have the same, with competent and well-versed reporters who know what theyre talking about

rather than 2nd rate reporters who give mis-information.

Maybe PDF should go into media business :D

Pakistan acquires airborne early warning aircraft

Wed Dec 9, 2009

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan has acquired the first of four airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft from Sweden, an air force spokesman said on Wednesday, in a move to match the capabilities of its main rival, India.

The Saab-2000 AWACS aircraft was handed over to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday.

"The aircraft landed at one of the PAF's main operating bases, marking the achievement of a major milestone in the overall modernisation plan of PAF," the spokesman said in a statement.

The air force gave no details of the cost of the deal nor did it say when the three remaining aircraft would be delivered.

The AWACS aircraft can detect high- and medium-altitude aircraft, low-level flying objects over land and sea and can pick up surface targets over the sea, the force said.

India acquired the first of three AWACS aircraft from Israel in May.

The nuclear-armed South Asian rivals have fought three wars since their independence from British rule in 1947 and strive to match each other's military capabilities.

India is also wary of its northeastern neighbour, China, which is the main supplier of defence hardware to Pakistan.

Relations between Pakistan and India improved after they launched a peace process in early 2004 but India suspended a broad peace process after last year's militant attacks on the Indian city of Mumbai by Pakistan-based Islamist militants.

India increased its defence spending by nearly a quarter in 2009/10 to $28.9 billion (17.9 billion pounds) as the government focussed on security following the Mumbai attacks in which 166 people were killed.

Pakistan raised its defence spending by 15.3 percent in the 2009/10 fiscal year to $4.2 billion, though defence analysts say much of the increase would be spend on the fight against al Qaeda and Taliban militants on its western border with Afghanistan.

TK,

Correct, however more so than chaff and flare, systems like Erieye have very significant active and passive jamming systems that make tracking and locking on very difficult for fighters. These are the main self-protection systems. Beyond this, the chaff and flare systems are used if an adversarial aircraft has let loose a missile or two by bypassing the fighter escort.

Yeah Sir, had an idea of that but left this part as had the thought that if mentioned this may be questions about such things start popping up and as we all know such ECCMs are not made public nor are they told in the profile of the aircraft or brochettes, they are only known by the manufacturer and the user, so that counter measures can't be devised by the enemy to counter such defensive measures.
