Not sure.. But a lot of the AAA has been converted from optical to Radar.. the recent exercises are testament to that.

so basically they operate by taking instructions from radar right!. can they also be operated automatically like the radars sees the target and then the gun automatically calculating it trajectory or altitude point its gun and start firing ??. has this thing been done by any country. i mean you have the goalkeeper installed on the ship they operate independently so may be same thing can be done with these guns .?

It has been accomplished years ago.

The accuracy is the most important part....

That first gun may be old....but I love it. Looks like an old 40mm Bofors. Even if you can't hit the jets...still could mess up a helicopter. I would station them near the front to repel heli assaults....but mainly to use on ground targets....still quite good for that.

Rawalpindi - April 11, 2014:
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif visited Sonmiani Ranges and witnessed Air Defence Firing Exercises. Full range of Air Defence Weapons including GUNS and surface to air missiles were used in the exercise. The COAS greatly appreciated the professionalism of participating units and standards achieved in engaging aerial targets

Notice the long gun barrel in the backround, that is 57mm Anti air craft gun,
Chinese Version of the S-60 57 mm Anti-Aircraft Gun near Rawelpindi, this gun was shown also in KARACHI this year on 23.03.2014 defence-show in Army cant and also in Lahore. It is stationed all over Pakistan, what mean we must have very high numbers of this gun in service. By the way P.O.F is tsill producing the rounds for this heavy long range AA Gun.

These weapon are revive again, specially for low flying objects, drones,missiles, gunship helicopter. Now they are all radar controlled. Its low cost effective defence system.
