Pakistan: 100 per cent rise in mental disorders over a decade

Around 12 per cent of the global burden of mental disorders came from India in 2000 and is expected to rise to 15 per cent in 2020, according to the World Health Report-2001.

This must be the 1st post by Windy which is complementary of India. With 17% of Global Population, if India contributes 12% of global burden of mental problems, it means that mental health in India is better than world average.. :azn:

On the other hand, some data about Pakistan

"Mental Illness

It has been reported that prevalence of diagnosable common mental disorders in Rawalpindi is 28% and that in Taxilla is 39%. 5 Study in rural Punjab found that 66% of women and 25% men suffer from anxiety and depressive disorders. 6 Emotional distress increases with age in both genders. "

its very sad that this nelson chap chooses to make fun of someones illness. Their are more people in india suffering various forms of malnutrition and other illnesses but I would not see that as a reason to make a cheap remarks about indians. In fact if i met an ill indian I would try to assist. We may have differing viewpoints but Nelson should learn that we are all human beings first and firstmost.

On topic when we are talking about an increase we should look at where the situation was before and often stats can be massaged.

I second your view brother, Humanity in general is suffering. Would it be so difficult to put aside boundaries and differences and care for the sick and downtrodden in India as well as pakistan, We as a brown race are being screwed by the other races. hindu, muslim, sikh, issai doesn't matter we all are human first.

Pakistan suffers from all the ills under the sun, hence the suffering.....one wonders, where did supa dupa power went wrong.

New Delhi: Around 20 per cent of all the patients seen by primary healthcare doctors in India have mental disorders, showed an analysis of government data. The analysis showed that one in four families is likely to have at least one member with a behavioural or mental disorder.

People belonging to urban sector and women were found to have a high prevalence of mental disorders, showed a study by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore.

Those who belong to lower socioeconomic status and nuclear families and those who are married, widowers or divorced also showed higher rates of psychological problems. People in the age group of 35-44 years are also highly prone to mental disorders.

Around 12 per cent of the global burden of mental disorders came from India in 2000 and is expected to rise to 15 per cent in 2020, according to the World Health Report-2001.

Estimates of National Family Health survey has hinted that around 15 million people in India suffer from severe mental disorders and almost 30 million from mild or moderate psychiatric problems.

To address these problems the government has launched National Mental Health Programme in 1996 in four districts as a pilot project.

Today the programme covers 123 districts under the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) and has been expanded to include the up-gradation of psychiatry departments of Government Medical Colleges, general hospitals and modernisation of State run Mental Hospitals. Under the scheme 89 psychiatry departments have been upgraded and 29 mental hospitals modernized.

20 pc patients in primary healthcares suffer from mental disorders in India - 20 pc patients in primary healthcares suffer fr..

Indian population is about 1/6 th of global population.that is 16.67%.Now if the total case of mental illness is 12% of the World, then, then statistically speaking, the Indian average is less than global.

My dear, I may be privileged, but I don't/would never see my self as a better human as those who are not so lucky.
This is what my religion and humanity teaches me.....however when some of these characters try to show that their evil is better than ours.... a likewise reply has to be in place. No doubt we have our share of problems but it's not hopeless.

I understand where you are coming from and completly have sympathy with your position

Pakistan sees 100 percent rise in mental disorders | TwoCircles.net

Insecurity, poverty, lack of education, inflation and erratic power supply are some of the factors contributing to it. Apart from genetic reasons, crimes too have increased the stress level in the society, experts said.

so load shedding is so severe in pakistan..first there is so much riot all over pakistan due to day long power cuts and now people are losing their mental blance due to this...govt should come up with better solution to tackle load shedding !!

Unable to afford Food or Fuel.
Not knowing when you leave the house if you will be blown up, robbed, butchered or run over.. or if that might happen to your father, brother, mother, sister, son or daughter.
Every other Nation points a finger at you for its ills.
Hearing everyday that you will be attacked by other nations.
Hearing everyday that your homeland may not be there the next year.

Heck Id go crazy.
