KUCH LOG .. waqar younis said that openly while commenting on the decision to exclude yousaf from the playing eleven. Younis khan has brought this on himself. He is out of form ,the senior players are against him and the public is fed up of his resignation drama. The crowd was jeering as Younis came over to speak during the presentation ceremony. Tough times for poor guy. Inzi has asked to sack both captain and coach. haha.. I dont know how this is going to end.

Inzi is a retard no offence. The latest is that he is the Shoaib Malik bandwagon. To me he just sounds jealous. The politics needs to end..because we have a perfect setup for a champion team. Just needs a few tinkering.

I am very sure that to be the case ... Misbah was under performing so he was kicked out and now Malik should be shown the door as well.

A. Razzaq is not his old self, I think he is more of a T20 player now.

Unity of command is important in walks of life therefore I fully support Younis Khan as the captain.

Yousuf wants Misbah in New Zealand

Mohammad Yousuf, Pakistan's stand-in captain for the tour of New Zealand, has called for Misbah-ul-Haq to step up and fill Younis Khan's absence. Younis has given up the captaincy of Pakistan once again, and taken a temporary break from the game altogether, and Yousuf has expressed his desire for solidity in the form of the axed Misbah.

"The team is fine but I have asked the board for Misbah-ul-Haq to fill the gap that has appeared in the middle order as Younis would not be playing in the series," he said. "He [Misbah] is a good batsman and I think he would prove helpful for the team."

Misbah, 35, was left out from the squads in all three formats for Pakistan's series of ODIs, T20Is and Tests against New Zealand in the Middle East and New Zealand. His form has been poor in all three formats over the last year, in contrast to 2007, when he reignited his dormant international career in sensational fashion at the World Twenty20 in South Africa and then on a tour to India.

However, barely a day after being axed, Misbah scored a career-best 284 for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the domestic four-day competition.
He shared a Pakistan record of 479 with Usman Arshad, 41 short of the world record for the fifth wicket in first-class cricket.

"He has been playing well in domestic cricket and I hope he would also perform well in the series against New Zealand," said Yousuf.

After a lull in international assignments over the last two years, Pakistan suddenly find themselves in action until February next year. They have completed the limited-overs fixtures in the UAE, losing the three-game ODI series but winning the two Twenty20s. They now head off to New Zealand for a three-Test series. Following that, they move to Australia where they have another three-Test series and a series of five ODIs as well as a T20I.

Yousuf said he would aim to unite the players against the backdrop of talk of players being unhappy with Younis as captain for a while. "Team's performance depends on unity. I will try my best to bring together all the players and team management and try to give top performance myself," he said.

Lets not bring a 35 year batsman; there are many other players who can play for Pakistan.

Misbah under-performed in accordance with plan with Malik, Yousuf and Akmal which caused Pakistan to loose. We don't need players in our team who hurt Pakistan's cause.

The year Misbah didn't perform and as soon as he was kicked out, he started to perform. Quite frankly I don't call his performance anything special as this season was batsmen's paradise because of our local dead pitches.

Performing in NZ will be a big problem for the Pakistani middle order, specially after playing on dead pitches in Pakistan and the ME.

I think Misbah and Yousuf could likely be the leading scorers in the Tests. I expect Malik to continue to fail..

Yousuf worried by early summer pitches

Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has said the bowler-friendly pitches in the early part of the summer in New Zealand will be one of the biggest challenges for his team during the three Tests, starting November 24. Pakistan set foot in the country having just finished the one-day and Twenty20 leg of the series in in the heat of UAE.

"The fact is we are going to New Zealand when the season has not started there properly and the weather will also be cold," Yousuf told AFP. "I think we are going to encounter seaming wickets and batting on them will be a big challenge for us."

The coach Intikhab Alam concurred with Yousuf and hoped his players will be able to adjust to the conditions. Looking at the composition of the Test squad, Intikhab said the bowlers were capable of taking 20 wickets but the batting needed a bit of attention. A series of batting collapses were primarily responsible for their 2-0 defeat in Sri Lanka in August.

"Our batting must click and show improvement because it will be tough to switch from one-day and Twenty20," Intikhab said. "Our bowling has the capacity to bowl New Zealand out twice but we must put runs on the board first."

He expected Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain, to be the biggest threat, especially if the pitches suit spin. Vettori has been the team's best all-round player in the recent past and has shouldered plenty of responsibility in all departments.

"Vettori is a seasoned player and we have to play him well, without giving him too many wickets," Intikhab said. "But if New Zealand prepares wickets conducive to spin then we too have quality spinners in Saeed Ajmal and Danish Kaneria."

Pakistan were hit by the sudden withdrawal of Younis Khan, who quit the captaincy and opted out of the tour because he wanted a break from the game. Intikhab and Yousuf agreed that Younis' absence will be felt, despite his run of poor form.

"Naturally, Younis is a senior batsman and although he has been in poor batting form, he is a world-class player who can come good any time, but you miss players through injuries as well and Younis' replacement will have a chance to prove his worth, " Alam said.

The tour begins with a three-day game in Queenstown on Wednesday before the first Test in Dunedin.

That should be the case because they are the most senior batsmen but what is a high score for these two gents?

Based on the last test tour of Sri Lanks:

Yousuf scored 253 runs after playing in all 6 innings. His total score was second in line after Malik.

Misbah scored 158 runs in 6 innings. He was fourth in line, Fawad Alam scored 216 runs to get third position.

Now these scores are playing in SL imagine how we are going to score in NZ, specially when the skipper and coah have already set the platform for excuses.

Asif returns to Pakistan Test side after two years

Dope-tainted pacer Mohammad Asif [ Images ] and opening batsman Imran Farhat [ Images ] will return to the Pakistan Test side after over two years in the first Test against New Zealand [ Images ] starting on Tuesday in Dunedin.

According to sources in the Pakistan team, the playing XI for the first Test include Asif and Farhat with Salman Butt [ Images ], middle order batsman Faisal Iqbal [ Images ] and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria certain to be left out.

"Farhat will open with Khurrum Manzoor, while Asif will be paired with Umar Gul and Muhammad Aamer with Saeed Ajmal [ Images ] playing as the spinner in the XI," a team source said.

He said Asif had been impressive in the three-day tour match and also in the nets, which is why he is being included for the first Test.

Asif, who completed a 12-month ban for a doping offence last September and also spent 19 days in detention in Dubai [ Images ] in June 2008 for possession of small quantity of contraband last played a Test against South Africa [ Images ] at Lahore [ Images ] in October 2007.

He made a comeback to the Pakistan one-day squad in the Champions Trophy [ Images ] in September but played just one match against Australia [ Images ] in the tournament and was forced to sit out of the recent one-day series against New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates [ Images ] because of a ban on travelling to Dubai.

Similarly Farhat's last Test appearance was against South Africa in January 2007 before he joined the rebel Indian Cricket League and was banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board from all cricket.

Sources said his half century in the three-day tour match won him the comeback, getting the nod over Salman Butt who apparently had some issues with the team management over his batting position.

Surprisingly, the selectors have decided to play Fawad Alam, ahead of experienced Faisal Iqbal, at the crucial number three position left vacant by Younis Khan.

The selectors have also decided to give young batsman Umar Akmal his first Test cap in preference to Faisal Iqbal.

Faisal Iqbal has a better record in NZ and he should play instead of Umar Akmal.

Pakistan batsmen in New Zealand
Batsman Tests Runs Average 100s/ 50s
Mohammad Yousuf 5 488 69.71 1/ 3

Imran Farhat 5 169 21.12 0/ 1

With all that is going around in the team, Pakistan should play safe.

If Iwas to select the team then I would go for the following 11:

1. Imran Farhat
2. Salman Butt
3. Faisal Iqbal
4. Mohammed Yousuf
5. Fawad Alam
6. Kamran Akmal
7. Saed Ajmal
8. Mohammed Aamir
9. Abdul rauf
10. Umar Gul
11. Mohammed Asif

First ball of the test series:

0.1 Mohammad Aamer to McIntosh, OUT,
oh dear me what a start to the series! The dream yorker which has him all at sea, McIntosh had no clue to this one which swung back in before he could react, the ball hits the toe of the bat and cannons onto the leg stump, Aamer couldn't have asked for a better start
