LAHORE: Pak Suzuki Motor Company continued unveiling imported vehicles in the country with the launch of another variant in Lahore. A company official, however, said that Celerio, which would be launched with the name of Cultus, will also be unveiled this year.

On Wednesday, the company unveiled Suzuki Ciaz, a 1.4-litre sedan, barely weeks after it imported several units of Vitara to sell in the domestic market.

“We have seen a huge demand from the Suzuki customer base and dealers for a sedan car,” PSMC General Manager Azam Mirza told The Express Tribune on the sidelines of the launch event.

Pak Suzuki to invest in automobile glass manufacturing company

“We believe there was a need to introduce a car in this engine category after the discontinuation of Suzuki Liana back in 2014.”

The launch comes amid news that Suzuki is willing to invest over $450 million in the country, provided the government allows it benefits being extended to new entrants through the auto policy announced in March last year.

While the investment plan remains hinged on incentives, the company, which entered the Pakistan market in the 1980s, continued to introduce imported models to test market response.

“Producing a local model is a time-consuming process and it can take up to three years to produce this car locally at a huge amount of investment. We believe that importing such popular vehicles at this point in time can be a good option for the company and its customers,” Mirza added.

The vehicle is being imported from Thailand with a K-series engine.

Ciaz has a price tag of Rs1.84 million for the automatic transmission variant. Its manual transmission model carries a tag of Rs1.69 million.

The price range and engine size put it in the bracket of Honda City and Toyota Corolla’s XLI, GLI models.

“We have introduced the basic model of Ciaz, but customers can request for additional features and an accessory on demand.

“We cannot commit on how much units we will be able to sell in a year but we believe we will have a good response.”

Celerio to have Cultus’ name

Talking about the launch of the 988cc Suzuki Celerio after the discontinuation of Cultus, Mirza said that the company is hoping to introduce the vehicle this year. “We will launch a 1000cc car in 2017, but will introduce it under the same name – Suzuki Cultus,” Mirza said.

.
Rs. 1.84 million for a compact car? lol why not just buy a corolla for this price, a proper sedan!

. . .
It's imported from India right?

It's a sedan!!

Looks like a illegitimate child of old corola & Honda City. Fugly as hell.

Btw, this model looks like a tyranny.

Her hair looks fake...
Ciaz didn't sell well in India....
People love Honda city and Hyundai Verna in that segment.

. .
Vitara also @ 3.2 million PKR is failure.
Problem with Suzuki is that they are not consistent in spare parts delivery of their older models. They had introduced a good car i.e. Baleno in 1.3L and 1.6L versions, but once production stopped, people who bought it have now to search hard for it's extremely expensive spare parts.
Toyota on the other hand is consistent in parts delivery of their older models also
So better buy Corolla in 1.7/1.8 million PKR. It's less lesser evil choice in Pakistani corrupt auto market

They should bring in their Mini car series in as well give option very fuel efficient models
Due to narrow roads such cars are quite popular in Japan

However the CIAZ a welcome addition

However for a company like Suzuki , don't see why they are delaying with investment of of 450 Million , they control some market now better capatalize on market before European players come into mix

Preferential demands would be unfair business practice , the policy has to be fair to all companies

Really about taking advantage of your present position in Pakistan
You make all these wonderful models yet can't bring them all to Pakistan

If Suzuki wanted they would have been dominating market now

They have the market , but not bringing the GOOD STUFF !!!

However demanding "favors" in return for 450 million investment sounds not right , Suzuki should compete with all people equally they have decent competitive cars just have to sell the cars people want to buy

Also they should be thankful to the chance Pakistani Public has given Suzuki in past by buying their car so it is up to Suzuki to offer investmet and also better cars to say "Thank you" to consumers

Just basic commerce bring the GOOD STUFF to Pakistan

Some sectors have to much potential in Pak.the laim excused by mirza “Producing a local model is a time-consuming process and it can take up to three years to produce this car locally at a huge amount of investment. We believe that importing such popular vehicles at this point in time can be a good option for the company and its customers,” is just to show there monopoly and no will to invest in Pak.Japanese and other car auto manufacturing have already operational plants and establishing new plant is not a big deal.Gov should not allow such companies to operate in Pak if they are not willing to establish complete plant inside Pakistan..means 100 percent made in Pak.from engine manufacturing to electronics component manufacturing etc.if importing is the only solution then we not need these companies because a local car showroom owner can do this job easily.

Truck /Buss/Tractor/Motor bike/ heavy machinery /manufacturing have lots of potential
Unfortunately even in motorcycles many companies are importing parts and assembling in Pak.job boom only happen when there is 100 % manufacturing established.Because with main assembly plant there are lots of subassemblies/manufacturing factories established if efforts are made sincerely

Suzuki's turf is small cars and hatchbacks. I wonder if their sedan experiments are really successful.
