Pak soldier sneaks into India, arrested

It is given that he will be returned to Pakistan. In all likelihood he strayed across innocently unless he planned on defecting :D

Poor guy must be traumatised enough. Just return him to Pakistan if he had no ulterior motives and let the matter rest there

I am a little confused. If there is no "proper" border with barbed wire fence etc., then who decides where India finishes and Pakistan starts? Or is it just a line on the map? What are soldiers on each side defending?

Cheers, Doc

This stone represents the International border. Such stones are placed with serial numbers on them across the border every 100 meters. The virtual line passing through these stones is called border.

So what happens if one country starts moving those rocks a bit more every year ? Who will know :D Soon Delhi could be part of Pakistan or Karachi part of India

Wouldn't it be pretty easy to move these stones (incrementally if needed) in the cover of darkness ...... there dont seem to be any bunkers etc. for kilometers. I was under the impression that except for LOC, the rest of our border was pretty well fenced.

Cheers, Doc

P.S. "Same Pinch" Planet Warrior! :) Devious Hindu Indian minds at work .... LOL

Army hands over Pakistani jawan who strayed into India

In a goodwill gesture, the Army today handed over a Pakistan para-military jawan who had accidentally strayed into India in Kupwara of North Kashmir two days back.

The jawan -- Sarfaraz Ahmed of Mujahid brigade, a para-military force -- was handed over to Pakistani authorities after the Army was convinced that he had accidentally strayed into Indian territory, official sources said.

The Mujahid brigade is posted across the picket in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in Keran-Karnah sector of North Kashmir, the sources said, adding the border observation post of the Indian Army also confirmed that Ahmed was posted at the picket located at the Line of Control.

They said that Ahmed had accidentally entered into the Indian side while taking a walk along the stream in the area.

The army officials had questioned him at length before deciding to release him.

Believe me when I say that these stones are not placed on every 100 meters.

Besides these stones are mainly into Rajasthan,Punjab and some parts of Gujrat.

Stones like these does not exist in many parts of Kashmir and Rann of Kutch.

He should be released, if found innocent. There should be no stones on LOC.

First, i found it amazing that the indians had been quite ready for 'handing over' the dude back to us. Well still the information was not out completely and the news said that he might be sent back if found 'innocent'. i am truly obliged!

Second, it is not that easy 'stray' across the border, it simple isnt. People move in the form of parties and no single individual moves at will. i am sure it is the same on the other side. But, again if he actually had strayed into india well there are two possibilities that either he lost his way while traveling from a post/got separated from his party or against all the odds he might also have tried to defect, but i dont think that can be the case, it is just so stupid.

Well, let me clear up a bit here.

If you see the first pic it says 'BP' on it. BP stands for Bearing Picket and is a surveyed landmark on the ground. by surveyed i mean that its coordinates/grid references have been accurately derived and from that point we can even find out the coordinates of other points. These stones cant just be moved around. The are fixed and can be easily counter checked if they are fiddled with. Actually it are these points which when connected form our borders on the map!

I also saw a story about some Pakistani youths sneaking into India in the morning.
