Pak Parliamentary committee summons Younis, Butt on CT show

KARACHI: Match-fixing has returned to haunt Pakistan cricket with the parliamentary committee on sports summoning PCB chief Ejaz Butt, captain
Younis Khan
Younis Khan and coach Intikhab Alam to seek explanation for the team's Champions Trophy loss to Australia after allegations of deliberate underperformance.

A senior parliamentarian, who heads the national assembly standing committee on sports, has accused the team of deliberately losing to Australia in the Champions Trophy in a group match.

Jamshed Khan Dasti said the standing committee would summon Butt, Younis and Alam shortly to explain the team's performance in the Champions Trophy.

"There is evidence that the team lost the match to Australia on purpose. It underperformed. Then against New Zealand also there are signs the team didn't want to win," Dasti alleged.

"We have been told by some respected and senior people and we are also trying to collect evidence that there might have been some hanky panky in the match against Australia and New Zealand," Dasti claimed.

Pakistan's last-ball defeat to Australia put India out of the Champions Trophy while their defeat to New Zealand in the semifinal came as a surprise to many.

Dasti lashed out at Butt and the team for disappointing the nation.

"I can say we lost to Australia on purpose. And the team's performance against New Zealand was zero. We will get to the bottom of this whole affair and find out the truth the nation must know the truth of what happened in South Africa," he said.

Dasti said the standing committee would not allow corruption in cricket.

"We want to see changes in the board and Butt must go because as it is he is too old for this job," he added.

Dasti said he would issue a notification in two days time summoning the captain and coach and board Chairman to explain themselves before the committee.

"We have heard a lot about match fixing allegations some people are telling us things and we also sense team didn't perform well on purpose. So we want to find out the truth," he said.

Neither Younis nor Intikhab were available for their reaction to the serious allegations by Dasti which is likely to set off a whole new controversy in Pakistan cricket.

This is what we call Twisting the Facts... and Indian newspaper has done double PHD in this....

Ok, Captian & coach done some blunders like missing the catch, not welcoming inform bowler like Muhammad Asif, power field placement, not putting pressure on batsman etc (& may be they were kicked out because of above reasons).. and also we lost the match because of some other factors like poor empiring... BUT fixing the important match is too much..

If this allegation would be on Pak vs Aus match, then it could be acceptable... looks like indians newspapers still can't digest the reality that they are out because of pakistan..

In a shocking revelation, Chairman of the Sports Committee of the Pakistan National Assembly has alleged that the Pakistan team deliberately lost the game to Australia to knock India out of the Champions Trophy.

"We went with a pre-determined mind to lose out the match against Australia. Our intention was to keep India out. It was a deliberate decision to lose match against India," Jamshed Ahmed Dasti told Pakistan TV channel Geo TV in an interview.

Dasti went on to claim that Pakistan also fixed the result of their semi-final match against New Zealand, which they lost by five wickets.

As is often the case, Dasti has not provided any evidence to back these claims, but has summoned the team management including the captain and the coach to discuss the matter.

Standing Committee on Sports has called in Captain Younis Khan, Coach Intikhab Alam and Chairman Ijaz Butt for investigations.

yeah!!!....

The title should be

title:- 'PAK LOST DELIBERATELY TO AUS/NZ/Umpires'

May be u agree that these gora umpires are always behind Asians (Srilanka, India & Pakistan)

If umpires are not giving out wt can players do.

And one more thing...we think its just a game not a war....losing and winning is not imp....imp is how the team is played.
And I am happy that they played well especially against India and Australia

Our cricket team, coach and officials should be praised for at least reaching the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy.

One reason for our defeat in the semi-final was the terrible umpiring. The LBW decision against Umar Akmal was horrendous and it seems that the umpire who can give a batsman out who had played the ball off the face of his bat needs to have his eyesight checked.

Also several LBW appeals made by Pakistan, including some very solid ones, were turned down by the umpires. In addition to this, we batted poorly and were short at least by thirty to forty runs. We are yet to find a solid opening pair and this is causing problems for us, as was evident in the tournament.

Besides, our fielding left much to be desired -- especially the dropped catch by Younis Khan was unpardonable. As for Shahid Afridi, I think we expect too much from him. We should see him first as a leg-spin bowler and agile fielder and then as a batsman.

Top Pakistani MP alleges underperformed on purpose

The head of Pakistan's national parliamentary committee on sports has accused the team of deliberately losing to Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy in a group match and has called for changes in the national cricket board. He has also said he would summon the board chief and captain before parliament.

"There is evidence that the team lost the match to Australia on purpose," Jamshed Khan Dasti said. "It underperformed. Then against New Zealand also there are signs the team didn't want to win.

"We have been told by some respected and senior people and we are also trying to collect evidence that there might have been some hanky panky in the match against Australia and New Zealand."

Pakistan lost to Australia off the final ball of the match after setting them a target of 206. In the semi-final, they lost to New Zealand after setting them a target of 234. However some dodgy umpiring decisions cost them in their innings - Umar Akmal was given out lbw for 55 though replays showed the ball hit the pads off a thick inside edge.

Younis said he was bitterly disappointed with the Champions Trophy exit as he had wanted to gift his country the trophy that had been shifted from Pakistan to South Africa because of security concerns. He said there were many reasons for the team's defeat to New Zealand, including his dropped catch, missed run-outs and poor umpiring but that finishing in the top four was a positive sign.

Any Pakistani Newspaper reporting this?

I do not think there was any hanky panky like match fixing.

Our captain was a bit foolish to try to create the legend of Imran Khan and instead of sitting on the bench decided to play...that also proved a big mistake...so yes on that account there should be an inquiry and this behavior discouraged...Imran had no replacement as a player in 92 world cup...and his injury only restricted his bowling...as a batsman he was one of the best ones in the team...whereas Younis was suffering from hairline fracture in his hand and that is a thing which impacts every aspect of cricket...he also had a few batsman on the benches who were in no way inferior to him in batting...In shape of Afridi there was a vice captain who many say can be a better captain than Younis...from all angles there is no justification for Younis to play in the Semi Final...most likely that he became a bit greedy and did not want another to steal his crown or victory...that is not good...fracture injury of the hand should not have been ignored like this by the team management...

Sadly there are instances of quite a few inquiries by parliamentary committees to ascertain the capability of the PCB after a major event...since PCB is still being managed via an adhoc arrangement...this makes it easy for politicians to grill it...

However the main thing is that Pakistan was amongst the best of the best...that is what should matter to the nation...we made it to the semi finals...and we did give Australia the match of the tournament...that makes for quite a good showing...

.
Kasam say yar wht is the deal with these guys ... now what is it a raw conspiracy ?

.
I am pretty sure every pakistani would have wanted to play india in the final and if we did fix the match why leave it to the last bowl?

.
lets be honest, can we really rule it out?

i think pakistan also may have been involved in dodgy dealing in the SL series aswell.
