Another running inquiry which found some answers from the leak is related to the purchase of properties in London. Sons of Mian have been under scrutiny of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) which wanted them to explain the source of funds. Mian distanced himself from the deal when summoned by the FBR. He said he didn’t have any financial stake. His sons said their foreign-based company obtained loans from two companies in British Virgins Islands and Guernsey. The FBR wrote to the both jurisdictions; only Guernsey responded and said the company under reference never existed there.

Now leaked data reveals that the company has a joint account with Mian and his wife. The couple held two accounts which appeared in the data and one of them was the company account that they co-held with the company. Balance in this account swelled to 18.5 million Swiss francs in 2012. Information shared by the family with the FBR said the company granted a loan of $20 million in late 2010 whereas this account received a balance close to that amount two years later. It remains unexplored whether the financing was done through this company or it is just a name-sake. Mian family didn’t respond to questions sent in the middle of January which followed reminders a couple of times. But sources close to the family say everything that requires legal disclosure as per current and applicable laws of Pakistan have been followed and all such declarations have been also done.

Those who unearth stolen/unexplained wealth of Pakistanis hidden in western countries are traitors.

This is a bit more pessimistic than the reality. Many (most, actually) choose to live in Pakistan, but still need Swiss accounts to hide wealth or evade taxes.

I did not put blame on entire journalist community. My point is just like we have bad apples in politics judiciary, military, bureaucracy and other aspects of society we have some bad apples in journalism as well. They must also be exposed and dealt with. But whenever the govt decides to take any action against these yellow journalists the western colonizers come to their rescue and pressurize/sanction the govt.

If you look at it it deeply, it is an issue of diminished morality or you can call it religion in the truest sense. Politicians, Journalists, Doctors, Businessmen Bureaucrats and Army men all fall prey to greed when they can get away with it. I think the Army should allow the Tablighi Jamaat back to work inside it. The internal fear of hell and the urge to go to Jannat is the method by which to ensure that corruption is ended. The top brass should emulate a simple lifestyle so that the officers and the jawans at the lower levels also follow that. With the grave economic problems facing the country, it is my humble opinion that the party that we had been enjoying is over. We are a poor third world country and all sections of the society should follow a similar lifestyle. As it is the economy cannot bear the burden of the army any more so it is a time for introspection. We have moved from a mercenary British army to a somewhat nationalist army but we still have a long way to go to become an ideological army.

This was widely suspected & now confirmed. His sons paid a journalist to write a book about their father Gen Akhtar Abdulrehman, but it raised many questions about how they got so much money when their father was not independently wealthy. So do not please chalk this up to Satan. Human weakness is the most likely culprit here.


The story is not about politicos. Whataboutery is never a good defense.

I am sure CIA/KSA would have paid extra stipends for the service. Participating in a war in the riskiest position does not come cheap.
