The White House on Wednesday confirmed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will meet the US President Donald J. Trump on July 22.

According to a press release by the White House, the US president will welcome the prime minister.

The confirmation came amidst confusion if the meeting would actually happen.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal had issued a tweet to address questions about the certainty of the visit.

"We wish to caution against speculation about the prime minister's visit. We are in close contact with the US side. As per practice, formal announcements are made at the appropriate time," he had said.

We wish to caution against speculation about PM’s visit. We are in close contact with the U.S. side. As per practice, formal announcements are made at the appropriate time.

The FO spokesperson's remark had come after a section of the media reported that the US State Department had expressed its cluelessness about the visit, casting doubt over whether the meeting was actually happening.

"The visit will focus on strengthening cooperation between the US and Pakistan to bring peace, stability and economic prosperity to a region that has seen far too much conflict."

"President Trump and PM Imran will discuss a range of issues, including counterterrorism, defense, energy and trade, with the goal of creating the conditions for a peaceful South Asia and an enduring partnership between our two countries," the statement added.

This will be Imran Khan's first visit to the US since assuming power last year following PTI's victory in the general elections.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had told reporters last month that President Trump had invited the prime minister in June but he could not undertake the visit because of the budget session.

The foreign minister had also said that talks between the two leaders would focus on “important regional matters”. Pakistan has helped the United States in jumpstarting the ongoing US-Taliban dialogue.

Earlier on January 3, Trump had told a cabinet meeting that he wanted “to have a great relationship with Pakistan, but they house the enemy, they take care of the enemy".

“We just can’t do that. So, I look forward to meeting with the folks from — and the new leadership in Pakistan, we’ll be doing that in the not-too-distant future,” he had said.

Then in March, Trump had said he hoped to meet Pakistani leaders soon as he acknowledged that relations between the two countries are “now very good”.

“Pakistan — we’ll be meeting with Pakistan [leadership]. I think our relationship right now is very good with Pakistan,” he said.

WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Imran Khan will likely be accompanied by Pakistan's top military brass during his official visit to the United States, official sources told The News.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to be here on a three-day visit starting from July 21, and meet President Donald Trump on the 22nd at the White House. The prime minister is also supposed to address the Pakistani diaspora and business community.

The Pakistani Embassy has not yet released any details of the official schedule, and remains tight-lipped about the PM’s entourage. It is however believed that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser Finance, Adviser Trade and Investment and other cabinet members would be part of the delegation.

Besides an expected one on one meeting with President Donald Trump, the two sides would hold a delegation level interaction to discuss bilateral and regional concerns. Official sources added that since the Trump administration is desperate to sort out issues related to US withdrawal from Afghanistan and seek Pakistan's help in this regard, the military brass is also likely to be in town around the same time. The embassy has, so far, avoided confirming this.

Pakistan recently hosted the first Afghan Peace Conference where representatives of key Afghan political parties participated. The conference was followed by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's key visit to Islamabad.

Ghani met Prime Minister Imran Khan and government officials from both sides held high level talks. Efforts to arrange the Khan-Trump meeting have been underway since President Trump announced in March that he was looking forward to meeting "the new leadership in Pakistan."

The Trump-Imran meeting as well as delegation level discussions are expected to improve ties between the two countries. In the past, the Trump administration had taken hard line on Pakistan, but quite recently has been taking steps to help resolve mutual concerns.

This is not really news given what the two countries main focus will be-- Afghanistan. No one should be surprised by this.

Bring our F-Solas and Viper Gunships.

Pakistan should forget about acquiring US equipment. When will people learn? :what:

PAC 3 is not a good system. Reports on it show its been failing to intercept even basic Houthi missiles. We should stay away from major Russian systems like the S-400 as that's the US red line, and so should look at similar systems from China or Europe. Cobras, MRAPs, and F-16s are what Pakistan needs.

No Saudis don't have PAC-3 but PAC-2 @FuturePAF

. . .
but PAC-2 doesn't relates to PAC-3, PAC-3 is hugely upgraded system at every sense, first hit kill SAM of PATRIOT series @FuturePAF

Would it primarily be used as an ABM system for the most important Command centers? or would it be used for long range Anti-Aircraft Air Defense?

. .
it is lower tier ABM system (Endoatmosphere) along with THAAD which is Higher tier ABM system (Exoatmosphere) and with EKV (Exoatmosperic kill vehicle) @FuturePAF

How much do we really need this? and couldn't we be better off spending the money on a decent regular SAM system?

for Indian BM we need decent ABM system, if war will start between India and Pakistan main Threat from India will from their SRBM and MRBM if We could go Chinese HQ-9 which also fulfill role of an ABM against SRBM and HQ-29 that have capability to intercept MRBM similar to THAAD that would be nice @FuturePAF

I agree. the HQ-9 and HQ-29 are probably equally effective systems while also being more economical. when the time come for future upgrades; they can be hidden from the enemy, and allow the army to keep the enemy guessing.
