Pak-India friendship inevitable: Krishna

SRINAGAR: Ahead of his visit to Pakistan for secretary-level talks, Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna has said that friendship between the two countries has become inevitable, especially after they have reconciled over several sensitive issues.

Indian news reports said on Thursday that Mr Krishna, speaking on the occasion of inauguration of a passport office in Srinagar, said the ‘acrimonial debate’ and leveling of allegations between Pakistan and India would not help either country and that even global conditions required that both the countries maintained good relations.

But he pointed out that convincing the opposition on such issues was an uphill task.

Praising the efforts made by his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar, he said that the foreign minister, in her last visit, had conveyed the message that Pakistan wanted to move ahead with the bilateral relationship.

Mr Krishna added that Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on being invited by President Asif Ali Zardari, might visit Pakistan soon.

According to a PTI report, he assured Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he would take up the issue of cross-LoC trade, including removal of negative list, during his visit.

Mr Abdullah drew Mr Krishna’s attention to the direct impact of Indo-Pak ties on the disputed region. He said that monetary value mismatch had proved to be a complication in cross-LoC trade and requested that a more rudimentary barter format of trade be explored.

Awsome news while the world moves ahead why shouldn't we... we need deep friendship & peace we live right next to each other enough of the blood shed time for PEACE it will go a long way for both nations GOD bless both nations.

.
Hehe.. Mr.Krishna is probably less corrupt than Khar if he considers her his role model

"Pak-India friendship inevitable".....Only if Lord Krishna had said that.
But i forgot that logic don't need names behind it to be called "logical".

Logical it is Mr. S.M.Krishna.This venture will move forward in a better way,if and only if there are rulers on both sides whom both the nations can depend upon for decisions of their well being.
Pakistanis hardly have any faith left in the current regime led by politicians like Mr.Zardari & Indians on your side will speak for themselves.

One agrees in principle that we too need to shed the baggage we have carried for 65 years and move on.

It would be wonderful if it were to happen.

However, I am not sure of its ' inevitability'.

There are too many wheels within wheels on both sides. Hatred for each other is not a POV any more - its an industry that sustains so many groups in our sub continent and the world arms / weapons industry.

One does not see that kind of leadership with the necessary mandate to make things happen .

P.S. The reference to a Hindu god in post 4 above is uncalled for .

Whole dream of Friendship will be busted because of yet another incident. There are people on both sides of the border who hate each other and because of whom two nations are failing to accept the other as neighbors and friends. Unfortunate but real.

hope atleast some of the issues get resolved may be even minor ones like sir creek n siachin even that would give the much needed thrust to Indo-pak friendship n would help to solve the trust issues which both countries r facing...:enjoy:

And I m one of them...Actualy S.M. Krishna wanted to say not ever possible…And that is very much true.

By my analysis its not possible. It not about political parties now as they will gain on both sides; especially in Pakistan as
1)the defense expenditure could be curtailed;
2)the moment the mentality of Jihad shifts the energy will be used more productively (1% to 4%) of able bodied man would be in productive function rather than taking arms.
3) Many cheaper service using expertise from India can be obtained e.g. 30 paise phone call per minute in all Pakistan, A lot of cheap vegetables, back office centers could be set up in Pakistan.
4) Later in the future depending on peace dividends a very relaxed travel and trade regime like Europe.

Its Pakistani army; as per my analysis they become the most powerful institution in Pakistan riding on the platform of hatred once there is reconciliation they will loose their power. which amounts
1) Reduction in number and in weapons
2) paramilitary forces will be made thus they will be evicted from the cities
3) the perks and political say would be reduced considerable.
4) Generals would be answerable to parliament for any act of omission and commission.

So I believe they will go for peace only if promoted by a general so they can take credit. When Musharraf was removed they were ready for agreement but the stage turned as soon as a civil government took power, civil government shows peace initiatives and Mumbai happened. I believe like Kargil civilian government was unaware of it.

We will never be able to reach the status of friendship unless massess interact with each other on a large scale .
Bollywood has certainly helped immensely Pakistanis in understanding that the differences between the two giants is pretty negligible .
On a side note we should concentrate heavily on bussiness .
Exporting bollywood helped , similarly exporting /importing other gadgets will also take these 2 countries a little more closer .
Moral of the story - Bussiness first , friendship will follow

.
i don't think this is possible. Friendship means caring each other interest. But can we do that ? Well never...
Look at the educated people, they are too much busy in fighting in FB, YOUTUBE and Here also . so what do you expect from other people who are not mature enough and can be easily mislead.
Some people say forget past and look at future well this is good idea but with people just discuss about whatever war, incidents happened in past between us, and you'll see their real thinking..

whatever this is funny once we used to be one and in today world we can not trust each other.
