Pak Govt is Privatizing These 70 Companies and Entities

Should the government privatize state-owned firms?

  • Yes

  • No

Results are only viewable after voting.
o bhai govt owned corporations breed corruption and reek of incompitence n political appointments n corrupt ceo's tolerated due to political affiliation due to which these institution n corporations go in massive deficit yet the politicians want to keep them afloat to keep their vote banks n hence the awam has to pay yearly in massive tax increases to keep these white elephants alive, privitization is the way to go because in a privately owned buisiness no one tolerates corruption or intolerance cause than its ur own money involved, partial privitization is the way to go with govt keeping 40% shares n becoming a silent partner n the management n 60% shares sold to private sectors in this way govt will earn massive profits n than will also tax the profits out of the share of the private owners:partay:, the taxes of the people wont be wasted in billions to keep these institutions alive n that money can be spent on development...

this is a very old and a very lethargic debate.

There are some institutions which should be state held and i will not back down from this fundamental issue no matter what.

National Bank of Pakistan
This one should be done with top priority. Seeing the moral and laziness level in employees at NBP I must say we'll be much better off if its is private and more competitive. Also, if done correctly it will be a nice step. Govt can step into bigger industries which out of reach of public level business people, develop some skill, sell to public and move on to next.

Every crown corporation should be sold off even at a dollar other than collecting taxes government should stay the hell out of business

Do You Know Units Privatized During First Tenure Of Nawaz Sharif 115 Units Were Privatized In A Year. The Government Has Yet To Receive The Money Of These Units. Many Cases Are Still Pending In Court.

Research Privatization in Pakistan And You Will Know Where Money For London Flats Came From:angry::angry::angry:

And Even Musharraf Was No Angel We Still Haven't Got Money For PTCL Habib Bank Was Sold Way Under Market Value And We All Know About Steel Mill.

Many SOEs Which Were Profitable Were Sold Off And They Turned Into Real Estate(e.g Zeal Pak Cement)

Nothing wrong with privatizing loss-making public enterprises, but it must be done right. Auctioning them off or selling them for peanuts is not the answer. What needs to be done is to turn these companies into stock-issuing companies. The government would then sell a 51% stake, owning the other 49%. If the company does well the shares held by the government would appreciate and people of Pakistan would benefit without wasting valuable taxpayer monies.

In the current state, loss-making public enterprises are being subsidized by government to the tune of billions of dollars. Need to free up this resource for other things.

Pakistan has to pay its debt, but "valuation" of the assets is serious issue, lots of greedy eyes (behind mis-management of these asset ) are again after acquiring these assets and they want these for nothing more than peanuts. We have seen the fate of PTCL (still disputed and unpaid).

Basic infrastructure should be a state's responsibility.

Health and education.
Communication and security.

Having just a minister will not work in Pakistan.

In Ayub era privatization worked well!

There Was No Large State Sector Except for PIDC Almost Everything Was Managed By The Private Sector Even The State Bank Was Partially Private Owned.

That Era Was No Doubt Great In Terms Of Economics But It Created New Problems

I understand the point of national assets remaining assets however if we talk about privatization; PIA comes into mind (due to recent events). Corruption and waste expenditure will be reduced alot. An example being Turkish Airways, they have a fleet of somewhat 330 aircraft and PIA has around 32-33 (Depending on lease renewals and other inductions) however PIA has the same amount of staff as Turkish.
I guess the reason is safarish.

lol of course those sectors should be directly and actively controlled by the govt, i'm talking about white elephants like gpo, pso, pia, steel mills etc that drain billions of taxpayers money every year just to remain afloat on paper, these corporations n others that dont concern the basic facilities required by a citizen should be partially privitized with govt as a silent partner.....if Pia,gpo etc had been partially privitized lets say with 50% shares sold off n management given to the private sector 10 yrs ago would've seen them transform into mamooth billion dollar corporations by now....

This is a paper weight argument in Pakistan. You know that very well.

A phenomina that has not been yet applied here cannot be labelled or branded before its effects are practically seen n by the way better a paper wieght holding all ur papers in order rather than them flying all over the room which reflects the present state of our institutions....

When the paper weight thinks of itself something greater than the papers. That is just a weight now.

You can apply this logic to life and thread in general
