( PAK-FA 5th fighter) Russia has displayed an alarming tendency to demand more Money

9, Nov

The IAF expects its own FGFA to commence entering service around 2020 onwards. This date, based on recent experience with Russia in the Gorshkov deal19 and upgrades to Il-38 Maritime Reconnaissance (MR) 20 aircraft, etc., cannot be taken as fixed. Russia has displayed an alarming tendency to demand more than earlier agreed upon funding, while at the same time pushing delivery dates further into the future. There is thus no certainty about the in-service date of around 2020 for FGFA21 to equip the first IAF squadrons being met.

The situation with the PAK-FA is complety different to the VIKRAMDITYA fiasco. In the case of the PAK-FA program India and Russia are partners and BOTH are investing funds and resources. Also Russia can't afford to delete this project for itself as it will be a large operator of these birds and if it try's to play India and get more cash it is only hurting itself. Additionally the entire VIKRAMDITYA incident was caused by the shipyard who underestimated the time and cost of the refit and overestimated their ability to carry out the work. With the PAK-FA India is dealing with a different group of people- Sukhoi is a proffesional and well established company who has plenty of experience and skill. It is not a shipyard that relies on Indian finds to stay alive so feels the need to milk India or go under. Additionally there is enough Indian management in Russia looking over the project to make sure the India's interests are protected. Both sides have learnt lessons from the past calamities and are keen not to repeat them again. I'd say Russia now more than ever needs to deliver so it can,for its sake, get a foothold back into the Indian defence market which it has been losing for years now.

The two projects are mutually exclusive.

Vivek Kapur the writer just tell the truth, but hurts many Indians

looks like Vivek Kapur is the the husband of ur wife's sister

@ topic - I just read the article & believe me only god knows what $#!t i was reading, this part is pretty interesting:

The FGFA programme with Russia is expected to cost India about US $30 billion. 22 Can India afford to buy another FGFA at the same time? Probably not. However, India is in the process of committing about $10 to 20 billion23 to a fourth generation machine, the MMRCA Rafale, which cannot hope to match a FGFA in combat.

Now, the author has the blind trust in Chinese capabilities, he says that China now has not one, but 2 FGFA projects namely J-20 & J-31, now it's one thing to claim stealth capabilities & totally other to display the same, no one knows where even the J-20 compares to either F-22 or PAK-FA forget J-31, he is comparing an unknown so called "fifth gen fighter" with a proven 4.5 gen Rafale & is saying that IAF is committing a blunder by going for a gen less of ac. :disagree:

P.S. He never says that PAK-FA's price is increased (which is still constant at $30 billion for whole project), just compares it with increase in INS Viky price & argues that Russia will do the same for PAK-FA (Hence Proved!!).

i have said this a month ago.... russia is india's best friend and like family member.... However they are angry on india because of america, mmrca and nuclear deal.... The AC was delayed delibretly.... More delays more money.... PAK-FA will be great opportunity for russia to earn big cash from india.... We indian dont earn to fullfil russian pockets.... Russia helped india alot.... So did we helped them.... Russia should stop being jealous.... India wont join america. We just need latest technology and thats all.... Russia is brother of india. They should understand this....

Well this is not true first PAK-FA is not like a SU-30MKI, PAK-FA aimed to equip Russian Airforce so even if India quit Russia won't loose anything they have resources to fullfill their own requirements. India just got in a way and now Russia have upper hand they can delay the process, they can demand more funding India have no other choice and the money India invested to become some sort of partner will also never comeback
