Pak exports of stones, marble, granites to China doubled in 2011

Good for your country but in our country no one gives any attention to environmental issues which are the actual long term damages the country will suffer due to Mining activties and marble exports. You know many parts of Pakistan gets rain when the rain clouds formed over Koh-e-Sufaid and Balochistan mounatins pleatue and then they moved towards east to Punjab plains and Khyber Pakhtonkhuwa plains and become the source of Monsoon there. Similer is the case with Western Winter rains...Such ill planned mining activites can lead to desertification.

Its indeed commendable that you are thinking about these environmental issues. As it is, Pakistan is faced with a situation of periodic water shortages. If the rainfall patterns get disturbed then the impact will be magnified. For intance, think about the effects of this on cultivation of Rice, Wheat and Cotton crops? And how that will hit the economy!

Yes, that's why we need to become a industrialized nation and leave our agricultural economic status. Musharraf had that idea, but he was kicked out.

Trees can be regrown but not the mountains.

Push Indian Tectonic plate into Asian plate further :azn:

Yes offcourse...In the long term such economic damages will have to faced by Pakistan

its not humour, Plus no matter how much industrialized you can get but you still need water...Water is needed for survival of life....Industries also run on water.

Even the most industrialised nation needs to be capable of feeding itself first! And ideally without imports.
So an Agro-based Economy is not all bunkum.

The biggest issue is not industrialization.. or the lack of it..
its understanding that our resources as bountiful as they are.. are still limited.
They WILL RUN OUT at some point or the other. Its as true for Pakistan as it is for China, India and the United States along with the whole world.

There is no harm in Mining .. as long as it is done with prudence and understanding the impacts of it.
Already there are effect of illegal and unchecked mining being felt around Islamabad due to activities in the Margalla hills.
And what used to be wonderful looking landscape on the otherwise gorgeous motorway between Islamabad and Peshawar has been reduced to rubble due to greedy miners and government corruption.

Pakistan must strengthen its export base. Plus its better if we make secondary goods instead of just selling the extracted material. Though marble and granite of course has to be sold directly but various gems such as diamond, lapiz lazulli etc need to be used into creating secondary material such as jewellery. Jewellery will fetch higher prices rather than just selling the gem directly.

We should stop relying on just selling what we take out of the ground. We should also concentrate on making things out of it.

Its true that it will run out at some point. The coal production in Wales has declined heavily in the years. There was a boom in 1910. Since then the resources of wales have been plundered. Coal production in wales plunged from around 50 Million in 1910 to less than 5 Million tons now.

So we must realize the resources may end or become economically unworthy of harvesting.

Just look at the picture taken from Google earth...Green mountains are vanishing around Islamabad and rubble has taken the place of green mountains...Plus Monsoon rains in the country and winter rains and snowfall patterns are more than neighboring western countries due to these mountains....What we are doing...Islamabad has got more rains than any other city in Pakistan because monsoon winds are stopped by these mountains there. We dont want to sell our rain, fresh water, green mountains in place of money....Please save Pakistan and its ecosystem and fresh water and rain patterns.
