BEIJING: Pakistan and China would jointly launch a communication satellite on August 14 to replace the SAT-1 which is on the verge of expiry, officials said.

The satellite would be sent into the orbit on the Independence Day of Pakistan as a mark of the Sino-Pak friendship, an official said after Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani`s visit to China`s Academy of Space Technology (CAST) here on Friday.

The prime minister went around several sections of the academy and observed the activities and research being carried out there.

He was briefed about the space workshop and vacuum chamber of the academy where Pakistan`s satellite PAKSAT-1R is being manufactured.

An agreement for manufacturing of the satellite by CAST was signed in 2008 during President Asif Ali Zardari`s visit to China.

EXIM Bank of China has provided a soft-term credit of 86.5 million RMB (Chinese currency) for the manufacturing of PAKSAT-1R, carrying a maturity period of 20 years.

Pakistan had launched its first satellite Badar with the Chinese cooperation in 1990. The communication satellite will have 30 years` transponders – 12 in C-Band and 18 in Ku-Band – each of 36 MHz bandwidth. The programme is in line with Pakistan`s Medium Term Development Framework objectives and may provide better satellite communications for Pakistan.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmospheric Research Commission and China Great Wall Industry Corporation are jointly developing the new satellite.

.
It is really good news for SPARCO Pakistan , as the last launched satellite has completed its Activity time and Pakistan surely need that assistance to Launch the next one
i think neither Pakistan nor India have that "Launching Capability" as India recently was assisted by France in Satellite Launching

.
Pakistan will also launch Remote sensing satellite this year.

India can launch sats in polar orbit

There have been 18 launches of the PSLV so far (only one was a failiure)

Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's the same rocket which sent a probe to the moon

However we don't have the have the capability to launch sats in geosynchronous orbit yet (that's why used Arianne for GSAT-8)

.
This satellite is not design, made or launched by Pakistan.Suparco will be just operating it from Pakistan.
It is same as I drive a Japanese Car

. .
Title is misleading, Pakistan is launching no satellites any time soon.

It's china that will blast the satellite into orbit. Just like how India launched Singapore satellite into orbit recently.

not like we dont have capability..we have used GSLV to launch geosynchronous satellites but with russian engine...we still have to improve our indigenous cryogenic engine..

dont you guys think its a funny way to say that it is a joint launch......

the satellite is manufactured by China(as highlighted above)
China is providing credit for the cost of the satellite(again as highlighted above)
China is gonna a launch it

so basically the role of Pakistan is just as a end user rather than a partner in the manufacturing process....then how is it a joint launch ----the only way that it can be a joint launch is if a Pakistani scientist and a chinese scientist gonna push the launch button together?LOL

the title should be BEST FRIEND CHINA BUILDS AND LAUNCHES A COMMUNICATION SATELLITE FOR PAKISTAN AND ALSO PROVIDES A LOAN FOR ITS PRODUTION

hence proved.. SUPARCO is also a 'white elephant' like PIA, Pakistan Steel, Pakistan railway and not to mention Pakistan Army and ISI who take more than 60% of budget and in return deliver nothing..

Pakisan might be providing man power / scientists/ technician for this Satellite project who MIGHT in return deliver something in future. This is the only silver lining on the "PAKSAT 1R satellite project's" cloud...

Rather than criticizing these organizations how about givng them some positive input in order to improve overall effeciency, if you can??? Now this is a big question mark for you, infact you opted out to polish the shoes of arab sheikh and havng more pride on that. Wow what a contradiction. Its easy to criticize because thats the easiest job in the world.:coffee:

what the heck you know about me? broad your vision and just give a thought a Pakistani enterprenuer branding a "Made In Pakistan" product in foreign. It is righltly said that civility doesn't just ooze by reading books. In simple I am adding as much as foreign reserves to Pakistan's economy and sending each penny to Pakistan via proper channel i.e., bank. This is what we need right now so that those people who are living in pakistan must not polish the shoes of IMF, World Bank and US to get aid to make both ends meet. A node to wise.

I am criticizing because i have the right to. I am the freakin tax payer of this country from the afore mentioned entities like PIA etc get subsidies.
