Pak China framework agreement on manned Space cooperation

China Mobile Space Engineering Office official released that China and Pakistan signed the "China Manned Space Engineering Office and the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Committee on manned space flight" on the 27th. The Cooperation Agreement on Flight Activities (hereinafter referred to as the "Cooperation Agreement") marks a new stage in the cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of manned space.

On April 27th, Hao Chun, Director of the China Manned Space Engineering Office, and Amer Nadim, Chairman of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Committee, held talks in Beijing and signed the Cooperation Agreement on behalf of both institutions.

During the talks, Hao Hao briefly reviewed the exchanges between the two institutions on follow-up cooperation since 2017 and introduced the latest developments in China's manned spaceflight project, especially the space station mission preparation. Amer Nadeem pays tribute and appreciation for the great achievements of China's manned space flight. He thanked China for its ability to list the Palestinian side as a partner in manned spaceflight and is willing to take this opportunity to further deepen cooperation and exchanges. The two sides also exchanged views on how to better promote the follow-up cooperation and exchange work.

It is reported that the cooperation agreement signed this time will serve as the top-level framework basis for cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of manned spaceflight. According to the Cooperation Agreement, the potential cooperation areas of the two sides include space science experiments and technology experiments, astronaut selection training and flight, manned space science application and transformation of results. In the next step, the two sides will also set up a joint committee of China-Pakistan manned space cooperation, with the leadership of the two agencies as co-chairs to study important issues in the follow-up cooperation of decision-making

Country's 1st space station to be shared

Completion expected by 2022; it will support variety of science research

China's plan to involve international communities in its space missions to jointly conduct space research shows its determination to further enhance global cooperation in space projects, according to the director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. That includes opening up its planned space station to other countries, especially developing countries.

China's space station, which is expected to be completed and operating by 2022, will be the world's first space station open for cooperation with all UN member states in manned space flights and exploration. The station will be able to support research on astronomy, space life sciences, biotechnology, microgravity fundamental physics and space materials science.

"Last year, we issued an announcement offering opportunities for all UN member states to propose experiments they want to conduct using China's space station," said Simonetta Di Pippo, director of the UNOOSA. "We have received more than 40 proposals before the deadline for submission. We will announce the winners probably by the end of June after evaluation." Di Pippo said these on the sidelines of the fourth China Space Day on April 24 to mark the anniversary of the country's first satellite launch in 1970.

Moreover, Pakistan intends to send one of their astronauts to China's space station by 2022, Amer Nadeem, chairman of Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission in Pakistan, said after the opening ceremony of China Space Day in Changsha, Hunan province, on Wednesday.

"Hopefully, the agreement on the matter will be signed very soon. We will select the candidates based on the agreement. Also, they will come to China for some parts of the training," Nadeem said. He added that Pakistan and China will further enhance cooperation on several space projects focusing on satellite networks in future.

Sixteen experiment racks will be installed in the core module, and two lab capsules of the space station and an extravehicular experiment platform will be built. Each rack is regarded as a lab that can support various space experiments, and astronauts can upgrade and replace the facilities. In addition, a capsule holding a large optical telescope will fly in the same orbit as the station, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency, quoting the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on Wednesday.

Di Pippo said opening up the space station to the world, especially to developing and emerging countries, is a good example of China's will to enhance international cooperation in space missions.

1962: Rehbar-I was the Pakistan's first rocket launched into outer space by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), on 7 June 1962

Rehbar-I was the Solid fuel rocket with a combination of 2 different rocket stages. Various Rehbar Sounding rocket models were launched 200 times between 1961 and 1972. There were only 2 rocket launches of Rehbar XXIII and Rehbar XXIV with a Nike-Cajun launch vehicle, all in April 1972.
