‘Pak army wants dialogue with India but with all options open’

. .
I think Indian army all along wanted to engage Pakistan army, even if that means playing golf together and PA was always accused of being an unwilling entity to this. So now if PA also wants the same, i don't see why the Indian are objecting to it considering having dialogue does not mean you are handing over Kashmir and realistic speaking even Pakistanis know that borders are not going to change, only a solution that is acceptable to all parties without showing the other as compromised specially India who has the upper hand.

India has no compunctions in engaging in a dialogue with Pakistan, It is Pakistani army's 'Plan B'( i.e.' in case talks fail, will resort to sub conventional warfare') that does not go well with us.

Pakistan can not seriously expect us to enter into dialogue while holding a 'terrorism' sword over our heads.

If Pakistan wants to enter into a meaningful and result oriented dialogue, it has completely abandon its old ways and not just put them on hiatus.

.
Then who will fight with india ??

If peace is established, Kashmir issue is peacefully resolved, India is our neighbour and can become a friend in the future. Fighting is in no one's favour, both nations know that very well. Diviedants of a lasting peace in S.Asia alone can cure the historic venom

I dont think anyone would oppose the idea of talks..... Most of us want a peaceful relationship with Pakistan and i am sure there are people on the other side of the boarder who share the same view..... (few posts suggesting otherwise may be due to the outcome of previous talks).... There have been talks and going to have talks in future.... Assuming that we have a stable government in centre (if a hung parliament then dont even bother talking) next month, there is going to be talks...... With army agreeing to talks is a good sign... Hope there is meaningful talks with outcome....

The outcome of the talks depends on the way government handles the hardliners on both sides

Imagine both the nations in good terms, huge advantage for the normal population...... our economies will grow further and farmers would be more benefited....

Economy is just one area. A lasting peace can also mean open borders, people to people relations will change many dynamics. Bigotry goes down when people of two opposing narratives meet in flesh. Socioeconomic advances in S.Asia as a whole will be incalculable.

And i have already acknowledged this fact that India has the upper hand and therefore feels no need to engage however also note the fact that it was the Indian army that proposed such an idea in the 1st place, heck even your government officials have echoed these ideas to engage Pakistan army in a dialogue. @nair has summed it up pretty good that ultimately its the government who has to handle hard liners on both sides. And no its not the plan B for us as long as there is dialogue however would you not agree here with me that one cannot engage in meaningful dialogue from a position of weakness and when you yourself say that India has no compunctions in engaging in a dialogue with Pakistan and i agree because India has the upper hand, seeing it from our perspective we want to engage India in dialogue and a meaningful dialogue and not just for the sake of it however ultimately the ball is In India's court since India is the strong party here how it wants to respond.

Pakistan has a clear shift in its policies, now it remains to be seen how far has India's policies changed, seeing from the recent statements of the next man coming to power, i am however very skeptical if anything at all has changed when it comes to Pakistan.

@nair how do you see your new government of Modi w.r.t Pakistan, how will they control any hardliner when they are themselves when it comes to Pakistan

If Modi and NDA get absolute majority in Parliament then it is a good sign for India Pak talks..... But then the hardliners are either part of government or they are in support of the government (for example, Shiv sena is partner of NDA and MNS supports Modi in this election).... so their fight/opposition is going to be internal..... and once there is call is been taken by government there will hardly any opposition from hardliners......

But the bigger question here is, How Pak government/agencies going to control the hard liners, and what kind of control they have on them...... One more terrorist attack in india we will be back to square one.....

I get the point you are trying to make But there is a giant IF involved as the first call from within the government hard liners would be to teach Pakistan a lesson. I don't see how that can be a good sign for talks. Going by the recent remarks from Modi, he seems to be pretty keen on doing just that.

So are you telling me that you won't hand over Kashmir to me even if I were to ask you with puppy-eyes while holding a freshly baked slice of apple-pie with vanilla ice cream on top of it that I baked just for you and if I promise to baby-sit all 11 of your kids for you for an entire year at a moment's notice ? :o:

I don't think the national mood or priority is to teach Pakistan a lesson right now. And irrespective of who forms the government, I expect the current stance vis-a-vis pak to continue.

All that of-course is subject to the absence of a large scale provocation by terrorists based in Pakistan on mainland India. Any attack in kashmir, no matter how serious, doesn't seem to affect the national psyche to the extent an attack on any other part does. As such, even the weak Manmohan Singh led government could manage public and media outrage over the fidayeen attacks on the army in Kashmir.

Any attack outside however wont be that easy to manage. And If I'm figuring this out, I'm sure the Jihad Council heads have too. Infact, I'm almost certain a major, high profile, high visibility terror attack outside Kashmir is being planned right now to derail any form of peace process.
