A day after India accused Pakistan of beheading a soldier in Kashmir and killing two others, top military commanders of both countries have spoken at Pakistan's request.

Pakistan asked for the talks after India unleashed a fierce fire assault today across the Line of Control in retaliation for yesterday's killings.

Separately, India has received confirmation that Sartaj Aziz, who functions as Pakistan's Foreign Minister, will attend a regional conference in Amritsar early next month.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Heart of Asia conference which focuses in improving security and furthering peace in Afghanistan, which has been mired in conflict since a U.S.-led coalition toppled the Islamist Taliban government in 2001.

"It's a good opportunity to defuse the tension," Mr Aziz, who is an adviser to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on foreign affairs, told a local television channel last week.

40 countries are to attend the conference on December 3 and 4, but the focus will be on India and Pakistan, whose relationship has plummeted to an extreme low in recent months with intense cross-border firing and heavy shelling occurring every day in Jammu and Kashmir.

In September, after an army camp in Uri in Kashmir was attacked, leaving 19 soldiers dead, India sent troops across the Line of Control or de facto border in Kashmir to target gathering areas for terrorists. Pakistan denies the cross-border raids or surgical strikes, but the ceasefire declared in 2003 in Jammu and Kashmir is now defunct for all practical purposes.

Yesterday's beheading of Prabhu Singh in Machil in Kupwara, about 80 kilometres from Srinagar is the second mutilation of an Indian soldier in three weeks by Pakistani troops.

Well i have to agree the fact that after Kargil this has been massive Indian-Pakistani fight at LOC. Pakistani Army was not expecting this what is going on since July-Aug. But hey don't fly high, your Indian Army has suffered more causalities which you guys are been kept blind.

ambulances were hit with machine gun fire along with mortor fire. genious machine gun was in someones control.

Table talk is only solution, otherwise this is never ending war, today if we kill their 2 soldier, they will kill our 7 soldier, and then we kill their many. This is never ending cycle, This madness need to end from both sides. Also we should keep in mind we have only 13 days of Oil left in stock. War is not solution nor we can afford to escalate tension. We should try to diffuse the tension as soon as possible. This is in the interest of both countries.

The most important purpose of any army is to protest their civilians. If Pakistan army is not able to secure the safety of your civilians from Indian line of fire, then it's their failure.

The conflict is going one for well over 2 months now, and if your army can't control civilian movements around the LOC and border areas, who's fault is that ??

FYI, mortars and self-propelled artillery pieces are mostly zero accuracy weapons, it won't differentiate between civilians and forces on either side of the border.

Let me call bullshit on this statement. If you have been around the LoC, you will realize that people have been living around the LoC since partition. They carry on despite the incidents of firing etc. Now with the civilians getting hit, this essentially was a case of interdiction on the road, this becomes an escalation because we expect military positions to be targeted normally but not direct interdiction of civilian transport. This is not a case of an errant shell.

Not really 18 Indian soldiers have died as compared to 12 Pakistani casualties. 1 other Indian soldier is missing and is allegedly to be prisoner of Pakistan.

Pakistan has giving India a good beating and we would give them more. You can either support PA or show your real flags since I have strong doubts that you are a bharati from Norway.
