The escalation ladder needs to be maintained for a reason. Any attempts by us to occupy territory would break the current status quo and put the onus on India to retaliate in a similar manner. If India uses heavy artillery, we use heavy artillery; if India uses jets and crosses the border, we use jets and cross the border.
Each escalation must be matched by the other side. Why do you think PAF jets could not provide substantial support to Pakistani soldiers during the Kargil conflict? The soldiers were in Indian territory which meant the IAF could strike their positions with impunity but the PAF (with no AMRAAMs) could not assist Pakistani troops due to the risk of sparking total war.

What is the difference between hurling the projectiles of heavy armour across to the border and using jets or helis to attack their positions!!
