Washington: Pakistan has been an unreliable ally of the US in the war against terror and failed "on occasion" when forced to choose between Washington and the Al Qaeda, says US Vice President Joe Biden.

The price of Pakistan's choices has been the "loss of life of American soldiers in Afghanistan", Biden told CNN in an interview on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. The full interview was aired Monday night.

Islamabad has "been very helpful in other times", he added. "But it's not sufficient. They have to get better. We need a relationship that is born out of mutual interest. And it's in their interest that they be more cooperative with us."

"We are demanding it," Biden said.

Despite troubles in Pakistan and elsewhere, the US is "getting close" to bringing about an end to organised, legitimised terrorist activities, he said.

"We have done great damage to ... Al Qaeda," Biden said. "Satellite organisations" have emerged in Somalia and elsewhere, he said, but "they are less coordinated" and "less capable".

"And we're relentless in pursuing them," he added. As a result, Americans are safer today than they were a decade ago, Biden asserted.

Regardless he cautioned that "there is always a possibility of a lone wolf" attack within the US or elsewhere.

"There's always a possibility of an incident occurring, but I do not believe there's anyone right now capable of putting together the kind of extremely complicated planned operation that took place on 9/11," he said.

Biden said he believes that in 25 years, Americans will "read about this period of terror as ... a part of a chapter in the history of this country".

The price of our choises and should be the protection and security of our nation and people. To hell with Americans and their concerns in Afghanistan. IF they are so worried about the lives of the Americans, then they should be making the right choices.
Even Superman couldnt be every where at all times.

I think not enough US government officials say it directly to Pakistani and international media, that in their judgement Pakistan is unreliable - only good can come from making this point repeatedly in both Pakistani and international media.

We know how reliable is America any way lol . I feel Pakistan is being used as an escape goat for every blunder, misconception and miscalculation that the Americans have made. America can not and will not be wrong in the face of the world and so it love to shift the blame again as it has done so many times before on a weaker country

The one who says that Pakistan is hindering the war of terrorism is thinking with a biased and ignorant mind. Its stupid for peoples to sit far away and pass comment on the poor performance of the Pakistani government against this so called war on terror. They don't even recognise that how much Pakistan suffered through suicide bombers and bomb blasts.

These blind peoples cannot see that how much innocent lives and monetary lost we have suffered and our soldiers is being martyred every day and these peoples say we are not reliable. Which government would like to let its peoples and soldiers die like this for others? I feel Americans should hold their mouths tightly shut. Life is precious even if you are not American. Little hard for the," American Idol" wannabe to understand.

Yeah our politicians are accepting money in exchange for the blame of American foreign policy failures. Pakistani Administration are idiots, but at the same time they will just escape to the West when the heat is on them. It feels like the people in power are American Gangsters.
