ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Afghanistan on Sunday reached consensus over Pak-Afghan transit trade deal. According to the deal Pakistan will allow Afghanistan access through air route and through Wagah border for trade with India.
The meetings took place for the third day. Minister for Commerce Amin Fahim represented Pakistan where as the Afghan Commerce Minister Anwarul Haq represented the Afghan delegation.
Pakistan clearly denied Afghan’s request for giving India route to Afghanistan. Pakistan says the issue can be discussed in Pak-India bilateral talks.
However, Pakistan had agreed to allow Afghanistan to trade goods into India through Wagah border and via air route.
Pakistan maintained that the LC for all the goods transported under the transit trade accord be opened in Kabul. It was also established that only licensed individuals would benefit from the transit trade.
According to sources under the agreement Pakistan will have trade access to Central Asia. –Dawn News.
