Kafir means disbeliever in Arabic. Someone who doesn't believe in Islam. Calling non Muslims Kafir is a fact, not an insult nor it is derogatory. The media may have been making it sound as derogatory, but it simply is a fact.

There is no comparison between genocide of all Muslims vs re-conquering India.

If some Mullah calls for genocide of all Hindus across the world including those in Bangladesh and South East Asia, then you have a point and those Mullahs would be wrong from Islamic perspective as well. Islam does not allow indiscriminate mass murder of a non believing population under Islamic rule.
