RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Air Force's (PAF) war hero Air Marshal (retd) Inamul Haq Khan passed away here in Rawalpindi on Thursday after prolonged ailment, a spokesman for the PAF said.

Haq was a hero of 1965 and 1971 wars with India, the spokesman said, adding that he was ailing for quite some time. He aged 90.

PAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman expressed immense grief over the demise of Pakistan's war hero.

Born in Patiala, India, in May 1927, Haq got commission in 5th GDP course of the Royal Pakistan Air Force in 1947, the spokesman said in a statement.

He was inducted in the Royal Pakistan Air Force as a fighter pilot in December 1949.

Haq was conferred with Hilal-e-Jurrat in recognition of his services in the 1971 war. He was also bestowed with Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military).

His funeral prayers will be held at PAF Base Noor Khan on August 11 with complete military honour.

It is a dramatic change from the days of 71 where some officers openly were racist and bigoted. A lot of cleanup in that end happened during the 90's.

I know my father told me, he served in army and how first Bhutto then Zia f@cked up the whole system and during Zia's reign he took retirement as young officer and moved here in Italy with family, Still he curse this idiot for destroying bar culture where young and senior officers meet up and discuss issues openly, this was / is the very reason grooming at personal level for young officers stopped.

Yes - I knew AM Inam well when I was a teenager. He used to golf with my dad in Rawalpindi back in the 80s. He was then the Minister of Housing under Zia after retiring as an Air Marshall.

My dad also served under him in East Pakistan back in in 1971 as the hostilities with India were starting. AM Inam was the base commander/ AOC eastern air command after Mitti Masud resigned and my dad was the Staff Ops Officer in Tejgaon/ Dacca in 1971. AM Inam got captured and became POW after the war (luckily for us, my dad got posted to staff college 2 months before the formal war). Indians did not allow AM Inam to communicate with his family so everyone assumed he died. HIS WIFE COMMITTED SUICIDE IN HER GRIEF!! Such is the sacrifice this man made..that his whole family got ripped apart thanks to the enemy. He eventually got back on the saddle, rose to the rank of Air Marshal and then became a Federal Minister under Zia.

Very, very sorry to hear that.
I find his service number 953, graduated on 23 December 1949. It looks he was the last one of his course, and possibly one of the last living Pakistani airmen trained by Poles. Does anyone have his portrait, when younger? I may have his pictures from Risalpur. Do you know details of his service?

Bar culture? Are you a Muslim? How dare you defend BAR CULTURE in Islamic Republic of Pakistan ? I think your father took a good decision of shifting himself and his family to Italy.
