If that happens, both India and Pakistan may be flying F-35 ,though of different version. India is negotiating with USA for 45-50 F-35C (carrier capacity =35, rest for ensuring availability of 35 at all times) for its second Indigenous Aircraft carrier (It is part of complete package with EMALS, E-2D, F-35C, and GE gas turbine,if carrier is conventional).

It would be interesting to see a F-35A vs F-35C battle,if Pakistan choose F-35A as its stealth plane. @AMDR , @Abingdonboy , @C130 @gambit . Which among F-35A and F-35C is better version in air?
I suppose F-35C is better in air to air since it has a larger wing surface

One problem with your comment, Pakistan is very much a part of the Asian pivote. The US cannot afford to ignore Pakistan, as it would just give China more room to expand. This is why we are seeing the US come back to Pakistan.
Well may be i am misinterpreting the Asian pivot thing, i thought it was related to east Asia and pacific region rather than south Asia.

Secondly yes i do agree that we are seeing much better relations with US lately but would that stop Pakistan from offering Gawadar as a naval base to the Chinese, i believe no and with such kind of relations with China how can US trust Pakistan with its most sensitive stealth technology.

As for the room for Chinese expansion in Pakistan, well it depends more upon how quickly Chinese technology catch up with that of the US. If Chinese can offer Pakistan pretty much the same sophisticated weaponry that US has on offer then there is no chance that Pakistan will ever go for American weapons in the future. If there is some sanity left in our establishment then i believe they will never forget the 90's and presler.

My point is US can not offer us its top-notch technologies because of our closeness with China (we can't afford it either). And it can never curtail China's influence over Pakistan, in the coming decade or so we will get even closer with China.

US is moving its Atlantic fleet to Pacific, not Indian Ocean so i don't see us becoming a part of Asian pivot. But we can become part of their Anti-Isis alliance or anti-piracy fight e.t.c. That's what i believe but I might be wrong, please do correct me if that's the case.

There would be NO Anti-IS alliance. As long as IS stays in ME and does not attack US, US is pretty comfortable with IS as IS suits its strategic goals in ME. IS keep pressure on Assad, Iran, and Shia Iraq, and by doing so it tame and neutralises three powers hostile to US.

And a decent coast guard could finish piracy between breakfast and lunch. The current Anti-Piracy coalition is more of a show-off than based on necessity.

US will not sell F35 to Pakistan & most importantly, F35 failed in dog fight against F16. F35 has a long way to go.

There are other people who say that Pakistan should go for J31, well the aircraft is not ready & has a very long way to go before it gets officially inducted in PLAAF. So PAF will have to go for what is ready & in service, SU35 is the perfect choice for PAF & they should for it ASAP.

F-35 is out budget plane , its waste of money and every 2-3 months it gets grounded by US airforce due to problems its in systems, we should have just opted for Hornets F18 if we had that option considering , Canada and other nations are selling their units off, on avarage asking 1 Billion per plane or something ridiculous figure for 1 fighter jet

Sukhoi-35 is better suited for our NAVY's need , 40-50 Units , we can thus retire our Mirage fleet (70 planes or so) Endurance & Radar coverage and performance in air, from specialization point of view , the plane would be 100% dedicated would help retire Mirage fleet

JF17 Thunder (150)/ F16 (150) Combination is enough for the Air Defense for Time being.

For F-7PG , ideal replacement would be Gripen with AESA - 50 Units , we retire 90 F-7PG
the new Gripen units would help bring in new Technology , close integration with SAAB erie eye and we can replace older F-7PG

For 1, F-35 (8 Missile in air), We can get 6 JF17 Thunders (Armed with 42 Missiles in Air).
Specially with JF17 Thunder introducing double seat version & introduction of AESA radar the value of JF17 Thunder rises even further!! for Pakistani Airforce

The problem with its Oxygen sensors and body problems are of great concern , and most folks in USA state that it good fighter in close range battle

IDEAL SCENARIO for Pakistan Air force:

150 JF17 Thunder (Our on going project)
150 F16 C/D (Our on going project) negotiate better radar/spare engines

Off the shelf purchase
  • 50 Sukhoi-35 units for NAVY (GWADAR/KARACHI), and coastal areas dedicated focus, retiring 70 Mirage units
  • 50 Gripen NG, retiring 70 F-7PG units, only if equipped with AESA

Focus for 2016-2022
Option 1: 6 Year Project with Turkey

Start of Stealth Plane project with Turkey: For 5th Generation plane

Option 2: Off the shelf purchase with China
Off the shelf purchase of J20 , 20 Units for specialized missions

I agree that Pakistan should join in asap with Turkey for next generation Fighter jet.

J20 has a long way to go before it gets officially inducted in PLAAF, there are other factors also which PAF will check, like air to air combat & air maneuverability, if one of them fails PAF will not go for J20. There was also a lot of talks about PAF might buy J31, well that too has a long way to go before PLAAF officially inducts them. So PAF should not think about both of them at the moment before both air crafts are not ready & there is no guarantee that they will pass the test with PAF.

About Griphen I don't think PAF will go for them because they are expensive & PAF tried Dassault Rafales in the past & they didn't opt for it because they were expensive.

I am not saying it is impossible but I just don't see PAF plans to buy Griphen.

So here is what PAF needs to do, work harder on JF17 & make it a better air crafts which can compete with other modern air crafts of its type & buy Su35 asap & that to in good quantity.

J31 has a long way to go before it is combat ready & ready for induction in PLAAF.

Mush had to lick some balls to get F-16s by screwing up WOT.
Now what does Pak has to do to get F-35??? back stab China? No thanks.... 300 million per plane will cost pak to lose one ball.... No sir not worth it.

JF17
F16
Su-35
FC-31

is the best option......

Hi,

After much thought and deliberation---I have come to the conclusion that PAF should change gears in mid stream and go for a 2 Sqdrn strength of the F 35 initially.

They should drop the idea for the SU35 or the J11D and go for the JH7B with the upgraded engine and aesa radar.

But the key over here is the F35----. With the procurement of this aircraft---it can bring some balance to the fire fight and have some strength at its disposal to maintain and manage an aggressive and a defensive power stance---.

This is an unconventional approach to the problem at hand---. Go for the 5th gen aircraft first and then go back to the 4--- 4.5 gen aircraft---.

It will also give it enough time to develop the JF 17 blk 3 as well.

There are a couple of things that have changed-----. @Zarvan brought my attention to a thread started by Usama---I believe---regarding the F15 Silent eagle----with a new configuration of 16 BVR missiles on the wings and underbody with conformal fuel tanks designed by Boeing believe.

The F 15 would be guided by the F22 and the F 35 towards the target---the same can be done with the JF 17's. If it can be designed to carry 6 BVR missiles---then you have taken care of some of the problems facing the air defense of the country.

By going for the F 35---you are going to take the initiative away from the enemy. If it was me----I would rather have 2 sqdrn's of F35's than 4 sqdrn's of J11d's or SU35's.

You guys are being upset at why this change in game plan----why d I keep bringing different scenarios-----. I guess you people might come across some news in the near or distant future.

So---til then--- I am not going to say anything else---. Just wanted to let you guys know---if India was a litte more aggressive last year---the deal for the J10B's was done----.

To those who are roaming around the air force bases----please look for 2 of them------.
I would love Pakistan to have F-35 but USA won't sell it to us but still we should try to go for at least 2 squadrons of F-35 it can be big boost as for JF-17 we need to develop BLOCK III as fast as we can and try to increase hard points to 9 instead of just 8. as for F-15 that is really beauty just imagine carrying 16 BVR. Lastly still my preference would be first to go for either J-11 D or SU-35 in large numbers and only than focus on 5th Generation.

My vision for PAF will be
1. 4++ Gen (F-16) from West
2. 4++ Gen (F-17) Local
3. 4++ Gen (J10c) Chinese (this could be debate bale as pretty much other two are in line .As for Gripen it will canabalized development of thunder as both are Light combat Aircraft .F-35 we can afford over a longer period of time 10 years 40 operational F35 will be around 5 Billion (500 Million per year) .but J31 offer more

.
Yesterday i had a review over internet regarding F-16 Vs F-22.
It stated F-16 is a no match in any respect to F-22, Even good piloting is unable to catch F-22 in close dogfight
So here we are lacking ability with no answer at all

Our hope remain until J-20 arrive
