PAF pilots cross-trained on almost all of the types flown by friendlies in the Middle East since the 60s. However, the scale of these programs has been curtailed considerably over the last 1-2 decades, and now these are a shadow of their former selves.

Having training and having learning to master a platform are two different things and than shooting a superior a/c is a level above.

Can any one tell how much flying hours did Sattar Alvi had on mig and hunter before the famous show downs.

PAF pilots were deputized to other airforces and they lived and trained with, and in certain cases, taught, the local pilots, for years and years, on a rotation basis. Ancillary staff were also rotated, albeit on a much more limited basis.

There were contingency plans involving evacuation of PAF aircraft to certain airfields if the land forces collapsed, as well as plans to ferry friendly aircraft to Pakistan for use as needed.

Isreali pilots knew they were up against a different caliber of pilots, and initially complained to the USA to stop what they thought were Russian pilots being used in active combat. Only after Kremlins' assurances that was not the case did they begin to suspect Pakistani pilots, and with increasing US pressure after the 1973 war, these programs were drawn down gradually.

Things of course changed completely after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

On 9 October 1973 Syrians attacked Galilee with FROG missiles. In response IAF attacked military headquarters in Damscus, oil refineries at Homs, oil port of Banias and oil depots all over Syria. All missions were succsessful with minimal loses. In same time 3 Israeli divisions crashed 5 Syrian divisions on Golan and only 2 fresh Iraqi divisions stoped Israelis 30 km from Damsus.

As result Syria never dared to attack Israel anymore.

thanks for sharing. I hope you are really from Israel and your profile is not just for personal amusement.
Of course Israel defended itself very well & even went of offensive during these wars. although it had a constant aid of military hardware & other supplies from the west in the shape of “air bridge” but in the end it was the Israelis themselves who fought this war.

Don't forget the role of the massive emergency military aid that was airlifted to by the USA. For a period of time, there was the real danger of an Israeli military collapse that was averted by the USA.

US airlift to Israel started only on 14th October, when there was not any danger and Israeli forces were already deep in Syria. Soviet airlift to Arabs started 4 days earlier: on 10th October. Total Soviet aid to Arabs was 78,000 tons, US aid to Israel - 66,400 tons.

Thousands of western volunteers fought with Israel during these wars, including USAF pilots.
There were no pilots during Yom Kippur war, only several hundred volunteers.

Thats compare to regular brigades and even whole divisions sent by Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria etc..

Even South Africa sent pilots to Israel.

US reinforced Israel with hundreds of tanks and aircrafts accompanied with their crews.
According to a special report by Aviation Week & Space Technology, IDF received up to 50 percent of US stockpiles of ammunition during the war.
